London-based AI firm Greyparrot has successfully closed a $27 million Series B funding round led by technology investor Omar Mir. This financial milestone coincides with the company's AI platform surpassing the analysis of over one trillion individual waste objects. The new capital will be instrumental in scaling Greyparrot's waste intelligence technology to make secondary materials more measurable and recoverable worldwide.

Addressing a Growing Need for Waste Data

As governments introduce stricter regulations, waste operators and consumer goods companies are seeking better visibility into material flows. Waste management leaders, including WM, Veolia, and Biffa, are deploying Greyparrot's AI-powered camera systems in their facilities. These analyzers, installed above sorting belts, identify materials, products, and brands in real time to provide continuous data.

The shift from occasional manual sampling to continuous AI monitoring delivers substantial operational benefits for recycling facilities. Operators have reported efficiency gains ranging from 10% to 30% by using the real-time data. In one notable case, a facility achieved annual savings exceeding £1.5 million, demonstrating a strong return on investment.

Empowering Brands and Regulators

Beyond recycling operators, major consumer goods companies are leveraging Greyparrot's data to enhance their sustainability efforts. Brands such as Unilever, L'Oréal, and Kenvue utilize the company's Deepnest platform to analyze packaging performance after disposal. This information is vital for redesigning products and improving their circularity.

The platform's data is also crucial for navigating complex regulatory landscapes like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes. It helps brands comply with new rules, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. This verified data supports national waste audits and statutory reporting requirements for various stakeholders.

A landmark achievement for the company came in early 2026 when the UK's Environment Agency accepted its AI-derived data. This marked the first time such information was used for statutory compliance reporting, submitted by clients Biffa and FCC. The acceptance underscores the growing trust and validation of AI in the environmental sector.

The Vision for a Circular Economy

Mikela Druckman, co-founder and CEO of Greyparrot, emphasized that waste is one of the planet's largest untapped resources. She stated that this new funding enables rapid scaling across North America and Europe while expanding the company's technical teams. Druckman believes the market demand and technological momentum are perfectly aligned for significant impact.

Co-founder Ambarish Mitra compared the impact of waste intelligence to what satellite data did for navigation. He noted that for decades, waste has been a blind spot, preventing the recovery of valuable resources. By making materials measurable, they can be traded and invested in, building a true circular economy.

This $27 million investment positions Greyparrot to significantly advance its mission of digitizing the waste management industry. The company aims to abate over one million tonnes of waste by 2030 by providing the critical data infrastructure needed. Ultimately, this technology transforms waste from a problem into a valuable asset, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
