Dubai Future Foundation has launched an AI Sandbox through Sandbox Dubai. The program is designed to help companies move AI tools from experiments into real-world use. It will connect startups, SMEs, established technology firms, and government bodies, including the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence.
How the sandbox works
Participating companies will receive technical, policy, and commercial support. They will also get tailored regulatory guidance. Depending on the use case, authorities may consider regulatory exemptions.
Who can apply
The sandbox is open to AI-native solutions in education, healthcare, transport and mobility, logistics, tourism, media, and government services. Applicants must have a minimum viable product or a more advanced version. They must also be ready for commercialization and able to inform policy development.
Responding to a real barrier
Research cited by the World Economic Forum shows 74% of companies have not moved AI projects beyond testing. The sandbox will let regulators assess new applications and identify risks. It will also help them gather evidence for future policy.
Companies can now apply to join the AI Sandbox. The initiative will complement Dubai's wider research, development, and innovation ecosystem. It also builds on Sandbox Dubai's regulatory work in the gig economy, healthcare, and real estate.
