Cashfree Payments, an Indian payments technology firm, launched Checkout for Agents. The feature lets AI agents read order details and choose payment methods during checkout. It is live for all merchants using Cashfree's hosted checkout, payment forms, and payment links.
How it works
Checkout for Agents is built on the WebMCP standard. Websites can give an AI agent a clear list of available actions. Cashfree said this can reduce token consumption by more than 40%.
Company scale
Cashfree was founded in 2015 by Reeju Datta and Akash Sinha. The company processes over $80 billion in annual transaction volumes. It serves more than 1 million businesses, including MakeMyTrip, Zomato, CRED, and Delhivery.
Customer control
The final payment authorization stays with the customer. Cashfree masks personally identifiable information before sharing order details with agents. Agents cannot enter card details through WebMCP.
Cashfree called this the first stage of its agentic payments roadmap. The company plans more capabilities for personal agents across its merchant network. Agent-led traffic is still under 1% of checkout sessions.
