Fintech leader BNB Liberia has partnered with Orange Money Liberia to launch a new international outbound remittance service. This collaboration enables Orange Money customers in Liberia to send funds directly from their mobile wallets to eight other African nations. The initiative marks a significant step in expanding seamless cross-border financial transactions for Liberians and strengthening the nation's digital economy.

Enhancing Regional Connectivity

The service allows users to send money instantly and securely by dialing the short code *144*113# from their mobile devices. To encourage adoption and promote financial inclusion, all transactions will be free of charge for the first three months. This feature connects Liberians with family and business partners in countries including Ghana, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire.

This strategic initiative combines BNB Liberia’s robust cross-border payment infrastructure with Orange Money’s extensive consumer reach. The partnership leverages the strengths of both companies to provide a reliable and accessible financial solution for the Liberian market. It effectively bridges the gap between local mobile money users and regional recipients, bypassing traditional banking channels.

A Commitment to Financial Inclusion

David Ojo, Managing Director of BNB Liberia, emphasized the company's vision for an inclusive digital future for the continent. He stated that the partnership reflects a commitment to providing fast, secure, and affordable financial solutions that connect people across borders. This collaboration is a key part of BNB's mission to drive Liberia’s ongoing digital transformation forward.

BNB has a history of pioneering digital financial services in Liberia, including being the first to terminate remittances directly into mobile wallets. The company has also introduced digital forex services integrated with mobile money and developed extensive agent networks. This new outbound service builds upon these foundational innovations to further empower individuals and businesses across the country.

Broader Implications for West Africa

The launch reflects a growing trend across West Africa toward creating interoperable mobile money systems and integrated regional payment networks. Such fintech partnerships are becoming increasingly vital for facilitating faster and lower-cost cross-border transactions. This move aligns with broader efforts to enhance economic cooperation and trade within the region through technology.

For individuals, families, and small businesses, this service offers a more convenient and cost-effective alternative to traditional money transfer methods. It reduces the barriers to sending funds abroad, supporting both personal remittances and small-scale commercial activities. The development ultimately contributes to greater economic resilience and connectivity for communities across participating nations.

The collaboration between BNB Liberia and Orange Money Liberia represents a pivotal advancement in the nation's digital financial services ecosystem. By simplifying international remittances, the partnership not only enhances financial inclusion but also reinforces Liberia's position as an emerging hub for fintech innovation in Africa. This initiative is poised to deliver tangible benefits to thousands of users while fostering greater regional economic integration.
