BioInnovation Institute (BII) has awarded a new round of growth financing to six Danish ventures working in human health, agriculture, and maritime sustainability. Each company receives a convertible loan of DKK 10 million after completing an earlier development phase supported by BII. The announcement marks a critical transition for the portfolio as the startups seek to move their technologies closer to market adoption.
Follow-On Capital for Commercial Maturity
The six companies selected for the new financing are PanTarg, 3Sonic, Inia Biosciences, Yngvi Bio, Proxi Biotech, and Sagava. Each venture previously received DKK 4 million from BII, which means the latest loans bring their individual BII funding to DKK 14 million. The additional capital is intended to mature their technologies, strengthen business operations, and support the next steps toward commercial application.
Access to Infrastructure and Expertise
Alongside the financing, the companies will continue working within BII's internationally recognized innovation platform in central Copenhagen. This environment offers advanced laboratory facilities, a global network of investors, advisers, strategic partners, and expertise in business development and commercialization. BII's model is designed to provide more than capital by surrounding early-stage startups with the resources needed to grow into strong international businesses.
Leadership Sees Strong Potential
Trine Bartholdy, business director at BII, said the six ventures have shown strong potential and have already taken important steps from promising research toward developing solutions that can make a real difference. She stressed that this is precisely the stage where capital, strong competencies, and the right network can become decisive. BII's objective, she added, is to help the companies convert their technology into sustainable enterprises and products that benefit patients, society, and investors.
Three Ventures Advancing Human Health
PanTarg is developing a new antibody-based cancer treatment that combines two targeted attacks in a single therapy, with a particular focus on aggressive cancers such as pancreatic cancer. 3Sonic is working on three-dimensional ultrasound and artificial intelligence imaging technology to help surgeons assess cancer tissue in real time during operations. Inia Biosciences is creating new treatments for inflammatory diseases, with psoriasis as its first area of focus.
Solutions for Agriculture, Infection, and Maritime Emissions
Yngvi Bio is developing biological crop protection solutions against pests while reducing the burden on biodiversity, the environment, and human health. Proxi Biotech is advancing a vaccine-based immunotherapy for recurrent bacterial infections, and its lead candidate targets Clostridium difficile. Sagava is working to decarbonize the maritime sector by transforming waste into sustainable biofuels and energy.
Academic Roots and International Links
Several of the companies are academic spinouts from Danish institutions. PanTarg originates from the University of Copenhagen and Rigshospitalet, 3Sonic from Rigshospitalet and the Technical University of Denmark, Yngvi Bio from the University of Copenhagen, and Sagava from the Technical University of Denmark. Inia Biosciences has roots in the innovation ecosystems of Boston and Oxford, adding international scientific breadth to the group.
The new round delivers DKK 60 million in aggregate across the six ventures and brings their combined BII funding to DKK 84 million. BioInnovation Institute is reaffirming its commitment to help early-stage science evolve into commercially viable products and companies. With stronger financial backing and specialized support, the ventures are better positioned to address unmet needs in cancer care, inflammatory disease, agriculture, infection control, and carbon reduction.
