Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda to expand the infrastructure supporting its AI operations. The deal will give Anthropic access to roughly 350 megawatts of computing capacity at a Hut 8 data center under development in Nueces County, Texas. The agreement comes as demand continues to grow for Anthropic’s Claude models and Claude Code assistant.

Nvidia-Backed Infrastructure Arrangement

The transaction brings together Anthropic, Lambda, Nvidia, and Hut 8 through a layered infrastructure arrangement designed to deliver large volumes of advanced AI compute without Anthropic directly developing the underlying data center. Nvidia is an investor in Lambda and supplies the graphics processors used by the cloud provider, while the chipmaker also reportedly holds the lease covering the Texas capacity that will support the agreement. Lambda will use that infrastructure to provide cloud-computing services to Anthropic, allowing the AI company to expand access to Nvidia hardware as demand for Claude and its Claude Code coding assistant continues to rise.

Hut 8 Expands Beacon Point Campus

Hut 8 is developing Beacon Point in Nueces County as a one-gigawatt AI data center campus, positioning the project as a major new source of power-intensive computing infrastructure in Texas. In July, the company announced a second 15-year lease for 352 megawatts of IT capacity, bringing the first two contracted phases at the campus to 704 megawatts and raising their combined base-term contract value to $19.6 billion. Hut 8 did not identify the tenant in that announcement, describing it as a high-investment-grade company, while subsequent reporting identified Nvidia as the party that had secured the capacity.

Anthropic Accelerates Compute Expansion

The Lambda agreement forms part of a broader effort by Anthropic to expand its computing resources as adoption of its Claude models increases across consumer, enterprise, and software-development use cases. The company has also agreed to spend $45 billion over six years for computing capacity from Nscale at a data center under development in West Virginia, according to The Wall Street Journal, with the site expected to use next-generation Nvidia processors. Anthropic has separately made major long-term commitments to Amazon Web Services, reinforcing a strategy that relies on multiple infrastructure providers and chip platforms rather than concentrating its computing requirements with a single partner.

Growing Demand Reshapes AI Infrastructure

The scale of these commitments highlights how access to computing infrastructure has become a central competitive factor for companies developing frontier AI systems, particularly as training and inference workloads continue to grow. Large cloud agreements increasingly combine chip suppliers, specialized cloud providers, data center developers, and energy infrastructure partners, creating complex commercial structures capable of supporting projects that require hundreds of megawatts of power. For Nvidia, the Anthropic-Lambda arrangement also illustrates how its role in the AI market extends beyond supplying processors, with the company using investments and infrastructure commitments to help expand the ecosystem that purchases and deploys its hardware.

Anthropic’s $35 billion Lambda agreement adds another major infrastructure commitment to the intensifying AI compute race. The deal expands Anthropic’s access to Nvidia-powered capacity while complementing its existing relationships with other cloud providers. It also highlights how access to chips, data centers, and electricity is becoming increasingly important to competition among leading AI developers.
