Airtel Money Uganda, Centenary Bank, and gnuGrid launched Kwaata Sente, a digital loan service for eligible Airtel Money customers. The service provides short-term credit without requiring conventional collateral or a bank branch visit. Loans start at UGX 10,000, subject to approved limits.

Loan access and disbursement

Eligible users can access the service without holding a Centenary Bank account. The bank said the partnership extends its reach beyond its existing customers. Once approved, loans are sent directly to Airtel Money wallets.

Partner responsibilities

Centenary Bank supplies the lending capabilities for the partnership. gnuGrid provides the technology used to assess creditworthiness from digital footprints. Airtel Money operates the mobile money platform that hosts the loans.

Responsible credit use

Airtel Money Managing Director Japhet Aritho said greater access must come with responsibility. The service should help customers manage financial needs and pursue economic opportunities. Borrowers should understand loan terms, borrow within their means, and repay on time.

Kwaata Sente forms part of efforts to broaden financial inclusion in Uganda. The launch also aims to promote a sustainable digital credit ecosystem. The partners said the service may reduce barriers tied to conventional borrowing.
