6K Inc. received a conditional loan commitment of up to $250 million from the U.S. Department of War. The funding would support a cathode materials production facility in Jackson, Tennessee. 6K makes metal oxide cathode materials used in high energy density lithium-ion batteries.
Financing conditions
The loan is intended to support construction of the PlusCAM production facility. Final financing depends on approvals from relevant government authorities and available appropriations. 6K must also satisfy financial, legal, technical, and regulatory conditions before any funds are disbursed.
Proprietary process
6K uses its UniMelt microwave plasma technology to make cathode materials. The process works without traditional precursors, known as pCAM. It also enables closed loop manufacturing with minimal waste generation.
Market and jobs
The Jackson plant would reduce U.S. dependence on foreign produced cathode materials. Its output would serve defense, drones, mobility, energy storage, robotics, and other advanced technologies. The facility would support over 200 jobs in Tennessee.
The company says the commitment supports secure, domestically manufactured cathode production. The planned site is in Jackson, Tennessee. No funds will be disbursed until closing conditions are met.
