Vertical Aerospace (NYSE: EVTL), a global aerospace and technology company pioneering electric aviation, has announced a formal review of strategic alternatives. The initiative is intended to support the next phase of the company's development as it shifts from technology demonstration towards certification and industrialisation. Jefferies LLC has been appointed as financial advisor to help evaluate potential strategic and financial partnerships.

Strategic Review and Advisory Appointment

The review will examine a range of options including strategic and financial partnerships that could accelerate Vertical's progress. The company said its operations, certification programme and commercial commitments will continue without disruption throughout the process. Vertical has not set a timetable for completion and will only disclose developments when its board approves a specific course of action or disclosure is required.

Operational Milestones Strengthen Position

The announcement follows a period of significant technical progress for the company. In 2026, Vertical became only the second company globally to complete a piloted transition flight in a full-scale tiltrotor eVTOL aircraft. It then carried out five consecutive days of piloted eVTOL transition demonstrations at the Farnborough International Airshow before more than 140,000 visitors.

Commercial Demand and Platform Development

Vertical's Valo aircraft is a piloted, four-passenger electric vertical take-off and landing platform with zero operating emissions. The company is also developing a hybrid-electric variant to offer increased range and mission flexibility. Vertical holds approximately 1,500 pre-orders from customers across four continents, including American Airlines, Avolon, Bristow, GOL and Japan Airlines.

Industrial Partnerships and Technology

Vertical combines partnerships with leading aerospace companies including Honeywell Aerospace, Syensqo and Sonaca with its own proprietary battery and propeller technology. The company describes the Valo as the best-in-class and only dual-use VTOL platform developed to exacting safety standards. It is designed to serve a broad range of commercial and defence markets.

Leadership and Financial Backing

Vertical has reinforced its financial position with approximately $100 million of new financing to support its path towards certification and commercialisation. The company also named Fabrice Brégier, former Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO, as Chair of the Board. His appointment is intended to help steer Vertical through this next phase of growth and strategic evaluation.

Certification and Industrialisation Focus

With the core eVTOL technology now demonstrated in piloted transition flight, Vertical is moving from development towards certification, industrialisation and commercial service entry. The company remains on track to complete its Critical Design Review by the end of 2026. Its early aircraft production facility and expanded Energy Centre are also scheduled to open later this year.

Executive Perspective

Stuart Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of Vertical Aerospace, said this year has been the most significant in the company's history. He highlighted the completion of the first piloted transition flight under regulatory supervision globally at Farnborough International Airshow. Simpson added that the technology is in place and has been de-risked, making this the right moment to explore financing options for the next phase of growth.

Vertical Aerospace is entering a pivotal stage as it moves from proven technology toward certified commercial operations. The strategic review, supported by Jefferies and a strengthened leadership team, is designed to identify partnerships that can fund and accelerate this transition. While no specific transaction is guaranteed, the company's continued operational schedule and growing commercial pipeline underline its commitment to the advanced air mobility market.
