Nigerian graphics processing unit cloud and infrastructure platform Udu Technologies has entered a strategic partnership with South Korean AI infrastructure company Baro AI to expand access to high-performance GPUs across Africa. The agreement was signed on Wednesday, September 9, during the Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Ministerial Conference in Seoul and later confirmed by UduTech. It aims to give governments, businesses, and research institutions a more reliable supply of computing hardware for artificial intelligence workloads.
A Partnership to Expand GPU Access
Under the agreement, UduTech gains access to Baro AI’s multi-GPU Poseidon servers, broadening the range of hardware available through its AGH Cloud platform. UduTech operates the Africa GPU Hub with deployments in Nigeria and the United States, serving developers, universities, and startups. The collaboration supplies an additional GPU source as the company responds to procurement requests from public and private organisations.
Addressing Africa’s Infrastructure Deficit
Africa holds less than one percent of global data centre capacity and an even smaller share of the GPU infrastructure needed to run modern AI systems. This gap leaves governments, businesses, and researchers competing for limited computing power and threatens to slow AI deployment at scale. UduTech says African buyers can face hardware delivery delays of up to thirty-six weeks from major suppliers such as Dell, HP, and Supermicro.
Local Data Sovereignty and Cost Pressures
Keeping processing power within African borders also helps organisations comply with strict data protection laws that limit overseas transfers of sensitive information. Many local banks, government agencies, and healthcare providers cannot legally send private customer data to foreign cloud servers. The platform lets software engineers train custom AI tools while ensuring that sensitive digital work remains inside local boundaries.
Deployment Flexibility for Non-Traditional Sites
Baro AI’s Poseidon servers use liquid cooling and generate less noise, making them suitable for environments such as banks and telecom facilities where traditional data-centre equipment may be impractical. This design could expand the number of sites able to host high-performance computing resources. It also supports UduTech’s goal of bringing AI infrastructure closer to African users.
Executive Perspectives
Alexander Tsado, chief executive officer of Udu Technologies, said African organisations should not have to face global chip scarcity and long hardware delays when issuing requests for proposal. He described the partnership as a disruption of that status quo and said the company is focused on putting Africa on the AI innovation table. Baro AI’s chief strategy officer Suyun Chae added that the company will work to build optimal AI infrastructure in cooperation with UduTech.
Market Implications
The partnership also provides Baro AI with a route into a fast-growing African AI infrastructure market where established global hardware companies supply most enterprise GPU servers. The South Korean company is seeking to expand its presence as African governments look for local computing capacity to support AI applications. UduTech expects the additional supplier to provide more flexibility on cost and delivery times depending on GPU type and volume.
