TrueMoney, a digital financial services leader in Southeast Asia under Ascend Money, has announced a partnership with Visa that enables consumers to link Visa credit or debit cards to the TrueMoney app and pay by scanning QR PromptPay codes. The service introduces a new funding option for everyday purchases at participating merchants across Thailand. It is available nationwide starting today and is supported by a cashback incentive and on the ground promotional activities through the end of 2026.
Digital QR Adoption Creates a Strong Foundation
Data from DataReportal indicates that 61.5 percent of internet users in Thailand aged 16 and above scanned QR codes with their mobile phones every month in 2024. This placed Thailand third globally in monthly mobile QR scanning usage. National ITMX data as of the end of June 2026 shows PromptPay had more than 83 million registered numbers and processed approximately 2.39 billion transactions in one month, with a total value of 4.38 trillion baht.
How Visa Cardholders Can Start Using the Service
Users first need to link an eligible Visa credit or debit card to the TrueMoney app. They then select the Visa card as the payment source before scanning a QR PromptPay code at a participating merchant. After reviewing the transaction details, the user confirms the payment, which adds flexibility for managing daily expenses through the familiar TrueMoney interface.
Incentives for First-Time Visa QR Payments
To encourage adoption, TrueMoney and Visa are offering a 30 baht cashback reward for first-time use of a Visa card to scan and pay via QR PromptPay. The offer runs from today until 31 December 2026 and is limited to one redemption per user throughout the campaign period. Additional special campaign privileges are available until 30 September 2026.
On-Ground Promotion in Silom and Asok
The partners have launched the Easy Scan and Pay Caravan to raise awareness in two of Bangkok's key economic districts, Silom and Asok. Activities covered Silom Soi 10 Market, Lalab Sap Market, Silom Complex Market, and Srinakharinwirot University Market. Over two full days, teams engaged office workers, merchants, and consumers with live demonstrations, on-site sign-ups, and prize giveaways.
Supporting Thailand's Cashless Payment Momentum
The collaboration connects Visa card benefits with the widespread habit of PromptPay QR scanning. It allows consumers to use credit or debit funding for QR payments instead of relying solely on bank account balances or e-wallet balances. For merchants, the arrangement can encourage more digital transactions and broaden the range of customers who can complete purchases at the point of sale.
Consumer and Merchant Benefits Beyond the Launch
The integration builds on the existing ease of scanning while giving users the ability to earn card benefits, manage credit lines, and keep track of spending within one app. It also addresses consumer expectations for seamless digital payments in both small and large retail environments. TrueMoney and Visa expect that the service will become a regular option for commuters, office workers, and market shoppers who already use mobile scanning as a daily habit.
The TrueMoney and Visa partnership marks a practical expansion of Thailand's digital payment landscape at a time when QR payments are deeply embedded in daily life. Through cashback rewards and active merchant engagement, the initiative aims to convert existing QR familiarity into wider use of card-linked scanning. It reflects a broader industry shift toward open payment infrastructure that supports greater convenience, choice, and financial flexibility for consumers and businesses alike.
