Nigerian defense technology firm Terra Industries has secured an additional $18 million, closing its extended seed funding round at a total of $52 million. This latest capital injection, supported by returning and new investors, will fuel the company's expansion and manufacturing capabilities. Co-founded by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra is developing autonomous systems to protect critical infrastructure across the Global South.
Strategic Funding and Investor Confidence
This funding marks the second extension of a seed round that began with an $11.7 million raise in January 2026 and a subsequent $22 million in February. The round saw participation from returning backers like 8VC and SV Angel, alongside new investors Norleo Space Investments and Grant Gordon. With $100 million in active contracts, the company is solidifying its financial foundation for future growth.
Expanding Manufacturing and Global Presence
A significant portion of the new capital is allocated for global expansion, including the establishment of a new corporate office in London. This strategic move aims to tap into a global talent pool and engage directly with international financial markets. Meanwhile, the company remains committed to scaling its manufacturing base within Africa to maintain operational sovereignty.
Terra is expanding its production footprint with a new facility, Pax-2, set to open in Ghana in late 2026. At 34,000 square feet, it will be the continent's largest drone factory, complementing the existing Pax-1 facility in Nigeria. The company aims to reach an annual production capacity of 50,000 units by 2028 to meet growing demand.
A Vertically Integrated Defense Arsenal
The company is building a vertically integrated platform of defense systems designed for the unique operational realities of the Global South. Its portfolio includes aerial drones like the Archer, interceptors, and unmanned ground vehicles such as the Minesweeper. These diverse hardware assets are unified by ArtemisOS, Terra’s proprietary command and control software platform.
Forging a New Defense Paradigm
Terra Industries is strategically pivoting its focus from solely African security to addressing the needs of the entire Global South. Co-founder Nathan Nwachuku notes that nations in the Gulf, South America, and South Asia face similar threats to critical infrastructure. The company aims to provide these regions with sovereign defense solutions independent of major world powers.
Unlike Western startups that partner with established prime contractors, Terra is building this industrial base from the ground up in regions that lack them. This approach allows the company to fill a critical vacuum, positioning itself as a foundational defense provider. By doing so, Terra is creating a new model for defense technology development and procurement in emerging markets.
This successful funding round propels Terra Industries closer to its goal of becoming a premier defense technology provider for the Global South. The investment will accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous systems that enhance security and data sovereignty for its clients. By building local manufacturing and a comprehensive product ecosystem, Terra is poised to redefine the defense landscape across emerging economies.
