Quantum cybersecurity startup QNu Labs, based in Bengaluru, has announced a significant capital raise to accelerate its expansion in quantum-safe security solutions. The company secured ₹200 crore, approximately $21 million, in a Series A1 funding round backed by public and private investors. The fresh infusion brings its total funding to ₹375 crore.
Investor Backing and Total Funding
The Series A1 round was co-led by the state-backed National Quantum Mission and Speciale Invest. Sony Innovation Fund, Gaja Capital, and Artha Ventures also participated in the round. The participation signals confidence from both government-aligned and private investors in India's quantum security sector, and prior to this round QNu Labs had raised ₹60 crore in its Series A funding.
Strategic Use of Fresh Capital
The newly raised capital will be deployed across research and development, sales, and go-to-market strategy while also supporting partnership-building efforts. QNu Labs will invest in internal processes, information technology, and automation as it transitions from technology development to a proof-of-scale business. The funding is expected to strengthen the company's ability to commercialize its quantum-safe solutions.
Product Expansion with QShield 2.0
QNu Labs is expanding beyond its existing cybersecurity portfolio with the launch of QShield 2.0, a platform focused on discovering and assessing cryptographic assets. Enterprises are beginning to prepare for quantum-safe migration, and this platform is designed to support that shift. The new platform represents a critical step in helping organizations manage cryptographic risks.
Defense Applications for Drones and Satellites
The company is also developing security solutions for drones and satellites, with drone security technology currently undergoing pilots. Chief Executive Officer Sunil Gupta said the offering is expected to serve the defense sector. This expansion reflects QNu Labs' broader ambition to secure critical and emerging technologies beyond traditional enterprise networks.
Government RDI Project and Matching Requirement
The investment also helps QNu Labs meet a matching capital requirement linked to a government-backed project. The startup was awarded a ₹150 crore project under the Research, Development and Innovation Fund and was required to raise a corresponding amount from its side. QNu Labs said it has already signed the final term sheet for the project.
Company Background and Technology Focus
Founded in 2016 by Sunil Gupta and Srinivasa Rao Aluri, QNu Labs is an IIT Madras incubated startup building cybersecurity products against quantum computing threats. Its solutions are based on quantum random number generation, quantum key distribution, and post-quantum cryptography. The company reports that its quantum-safe VPN is currently its most sought-after product and employs around 180 people, and it has built one of the world's longest quantum key networks.
International Expansion and Market Outlook
The fundraising comes as quantum technology moves closer to mainstream adoption, with India targeting 2029 for the transition. Gupta noted that the common global understanding is that this technology will become mainstream within the next two to three years. QNu Labs is strengthening its international presence in Australia and the United States while building partnerships in other markets, with overseas business largely focused on subscription-based platforms for banking and healthcare enterprises.
With this new funding, QNu Labs is positioned to accelerate its transition from research and development to large-scale commercial deployment in quantum-safe cybersecurity. The capital also enables the company to satisfy its government project commitments and expand its footprint in strategic sectors such as defense, banking, and healthcare. The backing from both public and private investors reflects growing confidence in India's quantum security ecosystem.
