During his time at CAISI and its predecessor, the United States AI Safety Institute, he focused on evaluating frontier AI models and addressing capabilities with national security implications.
Alongside his government service, Christiano is the founder of the Alignment Research Center, a nonprofit research organization dedicated to aligning advanced AI systems with human interests. From 2017 to 2021, he led alignment research at OpenAI and contributed to foundational work on reinforcement learning from human feedback.
