Technology firm NeoSapien, Inc. has officially announced its acquisition of the AirBar® brand assets, a name synonymous with adding touch functionality to laptops. The company is simultaneously launching LapTouch™, a successor device designed exclusively to bring infrared touch and gesture control to Apple MacBooks. This strategic move aims to bridge an interaction gap for Apple users by reviving and modernizing a celebrated technology.

Reviving a Pioneering Technology

The original AirBar, developed by Neonode in 2016, became an internationally recognized accessory for its innovative approach. It utilized an infrared light field to add touchscreen capabilities to traditional Windows laptops without requiring any screen modifications. The product's success, highlighted by major media outlets, proved there was a significant market for retrofitting notebooks with touch interaction.

Introducing LapTouch for MacBook

Building upon this established foundation, NeoSapien is introducing LapTouch™ as a sophisticated evolution tailored for the modern Apple ecosystem. The new device is meticulously engineered to integrate seamlessly with the sleek form factor of MacBook devices. Its primary function is to provide users with intuitive and responsive touch functionality without resorting to cumbersome external displays or permanent screen overlays.

LapTouch™ introduces several key advancements, including full multi-touch support that is deeply integrated with the latest versions of macOS. A groundbreaking feature is the new Air-Touch™ capability, which allows for contactless, mid-air gestures to control the device. Furthermore, its refined physical design attaches discreetly and permits the MacBook to close completely without requiring removal.

Strategic Vision and Market Opportunity

Phillip Cantore, Founder and CEO of NeoSapien, highlighted the market validation provided by the original AirBar. "AirBar proved there was strong demand for adding touchscreen interaction to non-touch laptops in the Windows market," he explained. Cantore emphasized that this created a clear opportunity to engineer a next-generation solution specifically for the dedicated MacBook user base.

Launch and Future Plans

In addition to acquiring the brand's US trademark, NeoSapien has also secured the remaining inventory and components related to the legacy AirBar product. The company is preparing for a 2026 launch of the first LapTouch™ systems, which will be introduced through a public crowdfunding campaign. This will be followed by a broader release via direct online sales to reach a global audience.

NeoSapien's acquisition of AirBar and the unveiling of LapTouch™ represent a calculated move to revitalize a popular technology for a new market. By adapting and enhancing the core concept of infrared touch for the Apple ecosystem, the company is blending legacy innovation with modern features like gesture control. This development promises to offer MacBook users a new dimension of interactivity, continuing the story that AirBar started years ago.
