MucoLife Therapeutics has received SEK 1 million from Vinnova, Sweden's innovation agency. The Gothenburg-based biopharmaceutical company is developing MLT-001, an inhaled mucus modulator for COPD and other muco-obstructive lung diseases. The grant will support a scalable manufacturing process for the therapy.
Manufacturing support
The award comes from Vinnova's call for small and medium-sized companies using life science infrastructure. MucoLife will work with a contract development and manufacturing organization partner. The goal includes a transferable process description and control strategy for later Good Manufacturing Practice manufacture.
About MucoLife
MucoLife is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It develops first-in-class inhaled mucus modulators. The lead candidate, MLT-001, remains an investigational preclinical compound.
What MLT-001 does
MLT-001 is designed to dissolve airway mucus plugs in COPD. Mucus plugging is present in more than half of patients with moderate-to-severe COPD. No approved therapy currently targets mucus obstruction directly.
MucoLife plans to build the purification process for MLT-001. The company says the work will move the program closer to clinical trials. CEO Thaher Pelaseyed described manufacturing as the step that turns a promising molecule into a medicine.
