Sydney-based Medow Health AI has raised an additional AUD $3.5 million from existing investors to support the rollout of an artificial intelligence receptionist designed for specialist medical practices. The new funding brings the company's total seed financing to A$8.5 million across three rounds. Medow Health AI, founded in 2023 by brothers Joel and Josh Freiberg, intends to address administrative burdens that specialist doctors face daily.
Funding Details and Investor Confidence
The latest capital injection follows a three million dollar raise in late 2024 and a two million dollar raise in early 2025. All three investments have been consolidated into a single A$8.5 million seed round, with support coming entirely from existing backers. Investors include Chris O'Brien, Lifehouse CEO Professor Michael Boyer and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Michael Solomon, while the founders have not disclosed valuation or financial details.
From AI Scribe to Front Desk Automation
Medow Health AI began as an AI scribe that generates medical reports for specialist doctors. The new AI Front Desk product answers incoming calls and manages appointments through a clinic's existing practice management system. The expansion signals a move toward supporting the entire clinic, with patient messages sent directly to clinical staff.
24/7 Multilingual Support and Workflow Integration
The AI Front Desk operates around the clock and can communicate in multiple languages, which broadens access for diverse patient populations. It integrates directly with a clinic's existing phone line and scheduling software, reducing the need for replacement infrastructure. Calls can be redirected to human receptionists whenever a patient requires personal assistance.
Addressing Gaps in Patient Access
Cofounder Joel Freiberg said up to half of patient calls to specialist clinics could go unanswered because of rising demand, staff shortages and the need for receptionists to prioritise patients already in the clinic. Unanswered calls can limit access to appointments, results and repeat prescriptions. The AI Front Desk is designed to ensure every call is answered, triaged and prioritised.
Growing Market Adoption and Scale
The company said its AI scribe product is now used by more than 1,000 specialist clinics across Australia and New Zealand. Medow expects to process approximately three million specialist consultations in 2026, reflecting growth of about 300 per cent from the previous year. The platform is customised for 50 medical specialties and sub-specialties, which distinguishes it from broader hospital-focused rivals.
Strategic Focus and Competitive Landscape
Medow's founders were inspired by their father, a respiratory physician, and their uncle, both of whom spent significant time on administrative work after clinical hours. While competitors such as Heidi Health and Lyrebird Health have concentrated on hospital settings, Medow remains focused solely on the domestic specialist market. The company describes the AI Front Desk launch as a pivotal shift toward a multi-product platform serving the entire clinic rather than individual doctors.
The additional A$3.5 million positions Medow Health AI to deepen its presence in Australian and New Zealand specialist practices. By combining an established AI scribe with a new front desk automation tool, the company is broadening its value for clinics facing operational and staffing pressures. The funding and product expansion reflect growing investor confidence in targeted AI solutions for healthcare administration.
