Finnish space intelligence company ICEYE and Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. have signed a contract to deploy the Flood Insights solution for faster flood claims response. The agreement was announced from Helsinki on September 7, 2026, marking an expansion of ICEYE's presence in Japan. The partnership will provide the Japanese insurer with satellite-based information on flood extent and severity to support efficient customer assistance.
Satellite Intelligence for Flood Assessment
ICEYE develops and operates synthetic aperture radar satellites that can observe the ground regardless of weather or daylight. Its Flood Insights solution uses this technology to detect changes caused by flooding and to map affected areas in detail. Insurers can use the resulting intelligence to understand damage patterns, prioritize claims operations and support affected communities.
Integrating Data into Claims Response
Under the new contract, Sompo Japan will incorporate Flood Insights into its disaster response workflow.
