South African investtech startup Fynbos Money now lets customers connect portfolios to AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. The Cape Town-based company builds a savings and investments platform that consolidates multiple financial products into one interface. The integration gives AI tools read-only access to account balances, selected funds, and related financial information.
How the integration works
Customers can choose to link a supported AI assistant to a Fynbos account. The connection gives the assistant read-only access to account data and lets it use Fynbos tools for calculations and projections. It was built with Model Context Protocol, so users can work with compatible assistants rather than one provider.
Founding and platform
Fynbos Money was founded in 2024 by Adrian Hope-Bailie and is based in Cape Town. The platform routes deposits into a central cash account before distributing them by customer rules. This setup supplies the portfolio information used by the AI connection.
Mobile app launch
Fynbos also released its first mobile app. The app adds biometric login, faster performance, and a more responsive mobile experience. It also gives the company access to security and usability features not available through its web platform.
Connecting an AI assistant is optional. AI tools cannot move money, buy or sell investments, or switch funds. Information accessed through a connected assistant is subject to that provider's privacy, data processing, and retention policies.
