ANYbotics has started shipping ANYmal X, a four-legged inspection robot for hazardous oil, gas, and chemical facilities. First deliveries are going to Equinor and DSM-Firmenich. The ETH spinoff spent seven years developing the robot.

Field testing

ANYmal X has been in development since 2019. Early adopters included BP, Equinor, Shell, PETRONAS, Petrobras, BASF, and SLB. They tested it across hundreds of onshore and offshore missions.

Customer adoption

More than 50 power, metals, and materials customers already use the ANYbotics system. Together they run over 120,000 autonomous inspections every month. The system connects to SAP, Yokogawa, and SLB software.

Inspection capabilities

ANYmal X navigates steep stairs and narrow walkways without facility changes. Its thermal, visual, acoustic, and gas sensors detect overheating, leaks, abnormal noise, and equipment wear. Each reading is logged to the corresponding asset.

The robot is designed to meet ATEX and IECEx explosion-protection standards. Its electronics and battery sit in sealed or flameproof enclosures. Charging and data transfer use energy barriers to avoid exposed connections.
