Enigmata Cipher enables AI on encrypted data at production speed

Enigmata, Inc. has emerged from stealth with a new cryptographic technology that allows artificial intelligence systems to train, search, and analyze data while it remains encrypted. The Nashville-based company announced a $6.5 million seed funding round led by Blockchange Ventures to commercialize its patent-pending Enigmata Cipher platform. The launch addresses a growing challenge: many organizations hold highly valuable data that they cannot safely expose to AI models or third-party processing infrastructure.


Addressing the AI Data Access Problem

Sensitive information such as clinical records, transaction histories, and proprietary archives often remains locked away due to privacy and security concerns. Enigmata Cipher is designed specifically for AI workflows where plaintext exposure would otherwise create unacceptable risk, including model training, enterprise analytics, semantic search, and agentic applications. The technology transforms records and datasets into an encrypted form that existing AI and analytics tools can use on standard enterprise hardware.

Organizations in healthcare, financial services, publishing, and other regulated industries are potential early adopters of Cipher. By keeping sensitive records encrypted during training, search, and analysis, these institutions could reduce exposure risks while still generating valuable insights. Enigmata is targeting banks, insurers, health systems, life sciences organizations, publishers, data providers, and model owners as initial design partners.

Performance Without Trade-offs

Historically, computing on encrypted data has forced difficult trade-offs between flexibility, performance, and security. Enigmata states that its internal benchmarks show models trained on Cipher-protected data matched the accuracy of models trained on raw data, while completing training eight to ten percent faster. Because the technology simultaneously structures and encrypts data, it can also improve processing efficiency in certain workflows.

The platform also supports targeted removal of individual records without requiring a model to be retrained from scratch. This capability can help organizations respond to data deletion requests and evolving compliance obligations more efficiently. By allowing data to remain protected throughout the AI lifecycle, Enigmata aims to remove a major barrier to adoption in regulated sectors.

Investment and Strategic Vision

Blockchange Ventures led the seed round with $6.5 million in total funding. Matt Immerso, general partner at Blockchange Ventures, said privacy is the next great frontier for AI and that every advance in hardware and models only matters if customers are comfortable putting sensitive data into AI systems. He added that Enigmata built encryption for that purpose from the ground up and could become a core pillar of the AI data economy.

Enigmata's long-term vision extends beyond secure processing toward infrastructure for data licensing. Institutions could make encrypted datasets available for AI training under enforceable usage terms while retaining control of underlying assets. As copyright disputes reshape how AI companies access training data, Cipher may offer data owners a direct way to participate in the value their data creates.

Scott Searle, co-founder and CEO of Enigmata, said every era of computing has forced a choice between using data and protecting it. He explained that Enigmata Cipher ends that trade-off, allowing hospitals, banks, and publishers to safely use their most sensitive assets in AI. The company describes the technology as trust infrastructure for the AI data economy, built for organizations that need valuable data in AI workflows but cannot safely expose it.


Enigmata Cipher is now available to selected enterprise design partners, and organizations can request access through the company's website. The startup was founded in 2024 and targets banks, insurers, health systems, life sciences organizations, publishers, data providers, and model owners. With this seed funding, Enigmata aims to move encrypted AI from research constraints into production-scale commercial use.
