Dopl Technologies has raised $6.3 million in an oversubscribed seed round to advance a telerobotic ultrasound platform designed to extend diagnostic imaging beyond conventional hospital staffing models. The Bothell, Washington-based medical technology company said the financing was led by SpringTide Ventures and increased its total funding to more than $8 million. The capital will support product development, clinical evaluation, regulatory work, and initial deployments as Dopl moves its technology toward U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.
Oversubscribed Seed Round
SpringTide Ventures led the round, with participation from WRF Capital, Tacoma Venture Fund, HeartX, Transform Health Ventures, Precursor Ventures, and other early-stage institutional investors. Dopl said its broader investor base now includes more than a dozen strategic, institutional, and community-focused firms from across the United States. The financing gives the company additional resources to complete verification and validation activities, prepare its FDA submission, conduct clinical assessments, and plan an initial market release.
Building a Telerobotic Imaging Ecosystem
Dopl is developing an integrated product ecosystem intended to allow qualified sonographers to perform ultrasound examinations remotely across multiple clinical sites. Its portfolio includes Traverse, a robotic ultrasound system; Dopl Connect, a secure connectivity and data platform; and SonoFlex, a workforce and workflow management solution for distributed clinical operations. The company describes the platform as hardware-agnostic because it is designed to combine commercially available robots, ultrasound equipment, haptic controllers, and cameras with existing hospital infrastructure.
Addressing Rural Imaging Shortages
The company is targeting communities where patients may face long travel times or delayed access to specialized imaging because trained sonographers are unevenly distributed. By enabling clinicians to operate remotely, Dopl aims to let one specialized workforce support several facilities while giving sonographers greater flexibility in how and where they work. The company says the approach could help rural and workforce-constrained hospitals maintain imaging services, reduce patient delays, and limit the operational disruption caused by persistent clinical staffing shortages.
CareBridge Provides Near-Term Clinical Coverage
While the robotic platform remains under development and is not yet commercially available, Dopl currently operates CareBridge, an in-person ultrasound service using traveling sonographers. The service is intended to meet immediate hospital needs, strengthen clinical partnerships, and provide operational insights that can guide the eventual rollout of the remote system. Dopl reports that patients at participating facilities have experienced wait-time reductions of up to 90%, and it plans to prioritize some of those hospitals for telerobotic pilot programs after regulatory clearance.
Regulatory Strategy and Clinical Development
Dopl said it has completed FDA pre-submission engagement, established a 510(k) regulatory pathway, and developed patented technology supporting its platform. The seed funding will be used to move the system through testing, clinical evaluation, submission activities, and the preparations required for early commercial deployment. These steps are critical because the company must demonstrate that its combined robotic, imaging, connectivity, and workflow components can operate reliably and safely in real clinical environments.
Leadership and Long-Term Vision
Dopl was founded in 2022 by a team that includes chief executive and co-founder Ryan James, alongside practicing cardiologists and radiologists. The wider organization includes experience from companies such as Butterfly Network, Philips, Microsoft, Amazon, and NVIDIA, spanning robotics, artificial intelligence, medical devices, and clinical operations. Dopl’s longer-term goal is to use remote and increasingly autonomous technology to redistribute specialized care, allowing geography to play a smaller role in determining whether patients can access timely diagnostic services.
The new financing marks an important step in Dopl Technologies’ effort to convert a workforce-focused imaging concept into a regulated medical technology platform. Its progress will depend on successful FDA review, clinical performance, hospital adoption, and the ability to integrate the system into established care workflows without compromising quality or safety. If those milestones are achieved, Dopl’s telerobotic model could offer hospitals a new way to expand ultrasound capacity while connecting underserved patients with specialized imaging expertise.
