Brazilian fintech Conta Simples has announced a major strategic shift towards autonomous finance, aiming to transform its corporate expense platform into an AI-driven financial infrastructure. Unveiled by CEO Rodrigo Tognini at Web Summit Rio 2026, this new direction introduces the concept of a B2B "agentic bank." The initiative is designed to significantly reduce the operational workload on finance teams, empowering them to focus more on strategic analysis and decision-making for their companies.

A Strategic Pivot from Price Wars

According to CEO Rodrigo Tognini, this evolution is a direct response to an industry saturated with price-based competition, where most institutions vie for customers with lower fees or higher credit limits. He asserts that such offerings have become a baseline expectation rather than a meaningful differentiator for growth. By focusing on AI, Conta Simples intends to provide a unique value proposition that anticipates future needs and equips innovative companies with a distinct technological and competitive advantage.

The 'Seu Agente' No-Code Platform

Central to this vision is "Seu Agente" (Your Agent), a new tool that allows managers to create and deploy AI agents using simple natural language commands. This no-code platform empowers non-technical users to define specific rules, triggers, and spending limits for automating routine financial tasks like payments and reconciliations. Crucially, the system ensures complete oversight by making every agent-led action fully recorded, auditable, and reversible, maintaining strict corporate governance without requiring IT intervention.

Fostering Adoption with a Dual-Mode Approach

Conta Simples plans a phased rollout with a dual-mode system to accommodate its diverse client base, which currently includes over 40,000 businesses. Clients comfortable with the existing interface can continue in "bank mode," while more tech-forward companies can activate "agent mode" to explore automation. This flexible strategy targets small and medium-sized enterprises with 10 to 500 employees, a segment often burdened by time-consuming expense management processes.

Early Momentum and Future Roadmap

The company has already seen strong preliminary interest, validating its strategic direction. A recent integration with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which connects AI assistants like Claude to financial data, garnered over 900 sign-ups and 120 active users within its first month. Building on this momentum, Conta Simples has a waitlist of approximately 100 companies for its beta testing phase, with the full public launch of "Seu Agente" scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Redefining the Role of Finance Teams

The ultimate goal of the agentic bank model is to fundamentally reshape the function of corporate finance departments. By automating repetitive and manual tasks, which can reduce processes like monthly closings from hours to minutes, the platform frees up financial professionals to engage in higher-value activities. This shift allows teams to dedicate their expertise to strategic planning and analysis, transforming their role from operational executors to strategic partners within the organization.

Conta Simples' venture into autonomous finance marks a bold step for the B2B fintech landscape, positioning AI as the next frontier for differentiation beyond traditional price competition. The company, which has already processed over R$70 billion in transactions, is betting that efficiency and strategic empowerment will become the new currency for business banking. The industry will be watching closely to see how this focus on governance and AI-driven automation resonates with SMEs and reshapes expectations for corporate financial management.
