EDGE Sound Research has raised an additional $2 million led by Stormbreaker Ventures. The investment brings the company's total funding to $9 million. EDGE builds perception software that helps AI understand physical spaces.
About the investor
Stormbreaker Ventures is an early-stage venture firm focused on connectivity infrastructure. Its investment areas include edge compute, IoT, and connected mobility. Its leadership includes former executives from AT&T Mobility and Qualcomm.
Company background
EDGE Sound Research was founded in 2020 from research at the University of California, Riverside. Its customers and partners include the NBA, Fox Sports, the United States Tennis Association, and Shure. The company's Virtual Sound Engine is already in commercial use across live sports.
What the platform does
The platform captures signals from microphones and sensor arrays already installed in a space. It isolates individual sounds from overlapping noise. The software then combines those sounds with video, tracking, timing, and location data.
The new capital will fund live sports deployments and expansion of its sensor data. EDGE also plans new applications for physical AI, robotics, autonomous systems, and intelligent environments. Such environments require machines to understand more than what a camera sees.
