Brazilian insurtech Hero Seguros has announced its first acquisition, purchasing 100% of Grupo CAM, a key representative of Europ Assistance in Mexico. This strategic move marks the company's entry into the Mexican market as part of its accelerated international expansion. The acquisition is partially funded by a recent R$ 35 million investment round secured by the firm.
A Strategic Entry into a Key Market
The decision to acquire Grupo CAM provides Hero Seguros a significant shortcut into Mexico's complex and operationally distant market. Initially exploring a partnership, Hero's leadership concluded an acquisition would offer a faster path to expansion. This approach allows the company to immediately leverage local intelligence and an established operational framework.
Mexico is a highly strategic market for Hero, with 18 million of its citizens traveling to the United States annually. By acquiring an existing entity, Hero gains an experienced team and consolidated relationships crucial for navigating the country's commercial landscape. This move significantly reduces the learning curve associated with entering a new foreign market.
Integrating Technology and Operations
Hero Seguros plans to integrate its advanced technology for distribution, customer service, and claims management into the new Mexican operation. This strategy will combine Grupo CAM's local structure with the innovative technological model developed by the insurtech in Brazil. The fusion of these elements is expected to create a highly efficient and competitive local entity.
To ensure a seamless transition, the founder of Grupo CAM will remain in charge of the operation for a 90-day period. Following this handover, the business will officially operate under the Hero Seguros brand while adopting the parent company's identity. This structured approach is designed to preserve operational stability during the integration.
Co-CEOs Guilherme Wroclawski and Raphael Swierczynski highlighted the importance of Grupo CAM's established network for their B2B2C model. They noted that these existing connections with key players in the travel ecosystem are fundamental to accelerating market penetration. This pre-built network provides a solid foundation for building a significant presence in the country.
Fueling Growth with Fresh Capital
This expansion is directly supported by Hero's first institutional funding round, which raised R$ 35 million from investors Headline and Actius. A portion of this capital was specifically allocated to finance the acquisition and the company's broader Latin American growth strategy. The investment is a key milestone for the company, which was bootstrapped since its 2022 founding.
The company has demonstrated strong financial performance, projecting revenue to grow from R$ 215 million in 2025 to R$ 400 million by late 2026. Furthermore, Hero anticipates its EBITDA will increase by 70% this year, rising from R$ 24.5 million to R$ 40 million. These figures underscore the company's rapid growth and ambitious financial targets.
With the addition of Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, and Costa Rica, Hero Seguros now operates in eight Latin American countries. This follows recent organic launches in Argentina and Uruguay, with a new operation in Chile planned for the coming week. The company aims for its international business to account for 10% of its total revenue by year-end.
The acquisition of Grupo CAM is a transformative step for Hero Seguros, solidifying its transition from a domestic startup to a regional insurtech player. This strategic M&A, powered by recent funding, accelerates its mission to expand its innovative insurance solutions across Latin America. The move positions the company for sustained growth and increased market leadership in the region.
