Belgian applied deep tech accelerator imec.istart is expanding into Spain, Germany, and Bulgaria, bringing its network to six European countries. Its regional investment funds currently represent more than €160 million in investment capacity. The accelerator supports early-stage technology startups through funding, coaching, and investor connections.
Regional partnerships
The expansion builds on existing programs in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy. Spanish partners include Additio Capital, Eurecat, and Mobile World Capital, while Novel-T and Pariter Partners support operations in the Netherlands and Italy, respectively. Each regional fund remains independently managed while sharing imec.istart's methodology and international investor network.
Fifteen years of startup support
Founded in Belgium in 2011, imec.istart operates as part of technology research organization imec. The accelerator reports supporting more than 380 startups since its launch. Its portfolio companies have secured over €1.25 billion in follow-on funding from outside investors, with alumni including Deliverect, DataCamp, and Payflip.
Support across European markets
The accelerator combines early-stage investment with practical coaching and access to industry partners. Its regional programs are developed with local organizations to address different market conditions. Founders can use the wider network to access capital, expertise, and business contacts when expanding internationally.
Imec.istart aims to increase its regional funds' combined investment capacity beyond €250 million by 2027. The expansion will continue through locally managed programs connected to its European network. The accelerator also participates in Allied for Startups, which represents startup interests in EU policy discussions.
