Sydney-based fintech platform Aussie Angels has announced its rebranding to Ventari, signaling a significant new phase in its growth. The company, which provides critical infrastructure for early-stage startup investment, has deployed over A$75 million across Australia and New Zealand. This strategic name change reflects its evolution from a platform for angel investors to a comprehensive solution for a diverse range of fund managers.

The Evolution from Angels to Funds

Founded in November 2021 by Cheryl Mack, Thomas Worden, and Sacha Schmitz, the platform was created to address a major industry gap. Mack's own experience revealed that setting up a compliant angel syndicate could cost over A$100,000 initially, with similar annual running costs. This high barrier to entry was preventing many capable investors from participating in the ecosystem.

While initially built for angel investors, the platform's user base quickly expanded to include a broader spectrum of investment managers. Today, it supports over 60 funds and active syndicates, with typical fund sizes ranging from A$5 million to A$30 million. The name "Aussie Angels" no longer fully represented this diverse and sophisticated clientele.

A New Identity for Broader Ambitions

The new name, Ventari, is a fusion of "venture" and "ar," symbolizing a central place where investment activities converge. It represents the company's role as a hub where funds can launch, grow, and operate efficiently. This rebranding aligns the company's identity with its core function as essential infrastructure for the investment community.

"There are so many emerging fund managers and syndicate leads across Australia and New Zealand who still don’t have the infrastructure they need," said CEO Cheryl Mack. "That’s where we want to keep showing up, backing more first-time managers and making sure the boring stuff never gets in the way of good capital finding good founders." This mission drives the company's focus on simplifying complex back-office processes.

Impact and Market Position

Ventari has established a significant footprint in the regional startup ecosystem, supporting over 3,000 wholesale investors. The platform has facilitated more than A$75 million in capital deployment to date. Citing data from Cut Through Ventures, the company states that over 35% of all early-stage deals in Australia and New Zealand are now completed through its system.

Industry leaders have affirmed the platform's value, with partners praising its role in their growth. Maxine Minter of Co Ventures noted that working with Ventari was "one of the easier decisions" made while building her fund. Similarly, Adrian Petersen of AfterWork Ventures highlighted how the platform enables them to efficiently manage sidecar funds and service their limited partners.

Future Outlook and Community Commitment

Looking ahead, Ventari aims to dramatically increase its market share, with a goal of processing over 75% of the region's early-stage deals. The company plans to achieve this by continuing to lower the barriers for new fund managers. Meanwhile, the well-regarded "Aussie Angels" brand may be repurposed for community-focused initiatives, including education and government advocacy.

The transformation from Aussie Angels to Ventari is more than a name change; it is a strategic repositioning that reflects the platform's maturation and expanded mission. By providing the foundational infrastructure for investment, Ventari is poised to play an even more critical role in the future of venture capital. This evolution solidifies its commitment to fostering a more robust and accessible startup ecosystem across Australia and New Zealand.
