Aptatek Biosciences, Inc., a clinical-stage diagnostics company focused on connected, aptamer-enabled technologies for decentralized metabolic monitoring, has announced the initial close of a financing round led by Canterbury Scientific Ltd. and Longview Innovation. The specific financial terms were not disclosed. Proceeds will support the clinical evaluation and continued development of the PheCheck program, the first application of the company's HomeCheck platform for at-home metabolic monitoring.

Financing and Strategic Backing

Canterbury Scientific, a global OEM supplier of in vitro diagnostic controls, and Longview Innovation led the round. The investors cited the company's technical foundation, the clear patient need, and the opportunity to build a broader platform for decentralized biomarker monitoring. Aptatek expects the new capital to generate the evidence required for a planned regulatory submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), while also supporting connected diagnostic infrastructure.

PheCheck Clinical Program

PheCheck is being developed for routine at-home self-testing for people living with phenylketonuria, or PKU, an inherited metabolic disorder in which uncontrolled phenylalanine levels can have serious health consequences throughout life. The investigational system has received Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA. Aptatek expects to complete its ongoing clinical study before year-end and use the resulting data to support a planned FDA regulatory submission, with additional information available at ClinicalTrials.gov under NCT07551921.

Technology and Patient Impact

PheCheck combines DNA aptamer-based sensing with a reusable handheld reader, a single-use test cartridge, and a smartphone-connected application. The system is designed to capture phenylalanine measurements over time and enable data to be securely shared with authorized care teams. This approach may support timelier and more informed PKU management compared with centralized lab testing, which can involve lengthy delays in receiving results.

Executive Perspectives

Michael Boyce-Jacino, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Aptatek Biosciences, said people living with PKU manage phenylalanine levels throughout their lives, yet current testing can involve lengthy delays. He noted that the financing supports clinical evaluation of PheCheck and the goal of generating evidence needed for an FDA regulatory submission. Clive Seymour, Chief Executive Officer of Canterbury Scientific, added that PheCheck represents an important first application for a platform with potential to expand home-based testing to other chronic diseases.

Platform Expansion and Regulatory Status

Jason Smith, Managing Partner of Longview Innovation, stated that the investment reflects Aptatek's technical foundation, clear patient need, and opportunity to build a broader platform for decentralized biomarker monitoring. The HomeCheck platform is intended to establish device, assay, and connected-data infrastructure that could support additional applications over time. PheCheck remains investigational, has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, and is not commercially available.

About Aptatek Biosciences

Aptatek Biosciences, Inc. is a Columbia University spinout developing connected, aptamer-enabled diagnostic technologies for decentralized metabolic monitoring. Its lead investigational program, PheCheck, is designed for quantitative phenylalanine measurement at home for people living with PKU, and the company is advancing a pipeline intended to move sophisticated biomarker testing closer to the patient. Additional information is available at aptatek.com.

Aptatek's initial close provides a meaningful step toward generating clinical evidence for PheCheck and supporting a planned FDA regulatory submission. The financing also reinforces investor confidence in connected, decentralized diagnostic platforms that can improve chronic disease management. As the company prepares data from its ongoing study, the announcement highlights the potential for home-based metabolic monitoring to expand beyond PKU.
