AI-powered intellectual property leader DeepIP has announced its acquisition of German competitor PatentMaker, a strategic move to create a dominant European platform for patent management. This transaction unites DeepIP's global AI technology with PatentMaker's deep expertise in the German and European patent ecosystems. The acquisition aims to establish a new industry standard for patent professionals across the continent.

A Strategic Alliance in European IP

The partnership is founded on the principle that effective AI in intellectual property must be tailored to local legal frameworks. DeepIP's acquisition combines its scalable AI platform with PatentMaker's specialized knowledge of regional practices and workflows. This synergy is designed to deliver a highly customized, jurisdiction-specific experience for patent practitioners throughout Europe.

PatentMaker was developed by Dr. Matthias Hofmann, a patent attorney at the renowned German law firm Boehmert & Boehmert. Its practical, attorney-first design has led to widespread adoption by nearly half of Germany's top IP firms and major corporations like Siemens. The tool's success stems from its ability to streamline routine patent work effectively.

DeepIP's Rapid Global Expansion

This acquisition follows a period of remarkable growth for DeepIP, which has quickly become a leading AI platform in the United States and Europe. The company has raised over $40 million in less than nine months and serves more than 400 organizations across 25 jurisdictions. Its client roster includes prominent law firms and corporate IP teams like Philips and Dexcom.

The move comes just three months after DeepIP secured a $25 million Series B funding round from investors including Korelya Capital, Serena, and Balderton Capital. This financial strength has enabled the company to pursue ambitious growth strategies, including this key European acquisition. The platform has already processed over 25,000 patent applications, solidifying its role in the industry.

An Integrated Platform for the Full Patent Lifecycle

By merging their technologies, the two companies will offer a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for patent professionals. The integrated platform will support the entire patent lifecycle, from initial invention capture and prior art searches to drafting, filing, and prosecution. This unified environment is built to enhance productivity and streamline complex workflows for its users.

The combined offering promises to deliver faster turnaround times, higher-quality output, and more effective collaboration for legal teams. Law firms and in-house IP departments can manage their entire patent process within a single, secure system. This integration is expected to provide greater control over budgets and improve cross-jurisdictional teamwork.

Shaping the Future of Patent Work

According to DeepIP CEO François-Xavier Leduc, the acquisition is about more than technology, reflecting a shared vision for the future of patent work. He emphasized Germany's high standards and praised PatentMaker for being deeply embedded in practitioners' workflows. The goal is to build a platform that helps professionals focus on higher-value strategic tasks.

To facilitate this integration, DeepIP is opening a German office in Munich within the premises of Boehmert & Boehmert. PatentMaker founder Dr. Matthias Hofmann will join DeepIP as a co-founder responsible for Germany. Celia Wei, PatentMaker's Managing Director, will lead the company's success and growth initiatives in the German market.

The acquisition of PatentMaker marks a pivotal moment for DeepIP, significantly strengthening its position in the European legal technology landscape. By combining its advanced AI capabilities with specialized local expertise, the company is poised to set a new benchmark for patent management. This strategic union underscores a clear ambition to make AI a foundational tool for intellectual property professionals worldwide.
