Throne Science has raised $10 million in Series A funding to expand its team, strengthen research and development, and advance the next generation of its smart toilet sensor. Will Ventures led the round, with participation from Emerson Collective, Workshop, LEAD VC, Salt VC, Accomplice, Moxxie, Ventures Together, Symphony, Felix Capital, Cosmic Venture Partners, Offscript, V1.VC, and Morrison Seger. The financing brings the Austin-based health technology company’s total funding to nearly $18 million since its founding in 2023.

Turning Bathroom Data Into Health Insights

Throne develops a compact sensor that attaches to a standard toilet and automatically tracks stool consistency, bathroom frequency, hydration, and urinary function. Using computer vision, artificial intelligence, and a companion application, the system converts routine bathroom activity into personalized observations without requiring users to maintain journals or enter data manually. The company launched the product to consumers in March 2026, positioning it as a passive alternative to health trackers that depend on sustained user participation.

Building Continuous Health Records

The company says the product’s value comes from collecting information continuously rather than evaluating a single bathroom visit in isolation. By establishing an individual baseline over weeks or months, Throne aims to help users recognize changes that may otherwise be difficult to notice or recall accurately. The approach reflects a wider movement in consumer health technology toward passive monitoring, with devices gathering information during everyday activities instead of requiring new routines.

Funding Product and Research Expansion

Throne plans to direct the Series A proceeds toward hiring, hardware development, and scientific validation. It intends to recruit additional engineering and science personnel while improving the sensor’s capabilities and increasing the information gathered during each session. The company will also fund research, clinical collaborations, advisers, and validation work needed to support more advanced health applications and any future regulatory process.

Expanding the AI Platform

Earlier in July, Throne introduced a beta version of its Gut Health AI Coach, allowing users to ask questions about their data and receive feedback based on recorded patterns. The tool is designed to connect digestive readings with factors including diet, stress, sleep, and lifestyle, helping users understand what may be associated with better or worse gut-health days. The funding is expected to accelerate development of this feature while supporting faster product updates, consumer education, and potential distribution through clinicians.

Strengthening Scientific Expertise

Throne was co-founded by Chief Executive Officer Scott Hickle, Tim Blumberg, and John Capodilupo, a former co-founder and chief technology officer of wearable company WHOOP. Its leadership team includes Karan Rajan as chief of science, David Strasfeld as senior vice president of research and development, and Ben Grynol as vice president of growth following his previous role at Levels Health. The company has also recruited medical advisers specializing in gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer prevention, and clinical research.

Pursuing Earlier Detection

Throne’s longer-term objective is to develop an at-home system capable of identifying changes that could indicate early signs of colorectal cancer and cancers affecting the urinary tract. The company describes the ambition as building a “smoke detector” for serious disease, but emphasizes that its current consumer product does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent medical conditions. Achieving that objective will require extensive research, clinical validation, and regulatory work, with the new financing providing resources to advance those efforts responsibly.

The Series A gives Throne additional capital to improve its hardware, deepen its scientific capabilities, and expand a platform built around continuous digestive and urinary health data. Its strategy combines consumer wellness insights available today with a longer-term effort to create clinically meaningful early-warning tools. Whether the technology can ultimately support disease screening remains unproven, but the round positions the company to investigate that potential while scaling its existing product.
