The Portal has raised $5 million to launch a 15,000-square-foot flagship members club in Downtown Austin, expanding its wellness, arts, and culture-focused model beyond Marin/San Francisco. Scheduled to open in fall 2026 at 601 Rio Grande, the new location will bring together wellness amenities, creative programming, coworking, hospitality, and community experiences for Austin’s founders, creators, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders.
A New Flagship in Downtown Austin
The Portal’s upcoming Austin location will combine wellness amenities, cultural programming, and social spaces under one roof. Planned features include a rooftop pool, cold plunges, a 30-person sauna, a movement studio, a restaurant and bar, a members lounge, coworking areas, an art gallery, a podcast studio, and a rooftop stage. The venue will also include a state-of-the-art sound system to support live events and immersive experiences.
According to the company, the club is being developed around the idea of “human flourishing.” That concept is reflected in the mix of physical wellbeing, intellectual exchange, artistic expression, and community-building planned for the Austin space. Rather than operating solely as a fitness or social club, The Portal aims to create a multidisciplinary environment for personal and professional growth.
Programming and Member Experience
The Portal Austin is expected to host a wide range of programming, including live music, salon-style discussions, keynote talks, movement classes, immersive events, and member-led gatherings. The company says these experiences are intended to give members opportunities to share their expertise, creativity, and interests with one another. Members will also receive reciprocal access to more than 30 partner clubs around the world.
Co-founder and CEO Anwen Baumeister said the company was created in response to rising demand for belonging, wellbeing, and deeper community. She described Austin as a natural fit because of its concentration of creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators. Co-founder and CFO Tim Chang emphasized that The Portal is also meant to help members contribute to the community through their own passions and knowledge.
Design, Backers, and Advisors
The Austin location is being designed by FanFare, a creative agency focused on culture, design, experience, and execution. The project is being led by FanFare founder Bill Swano, with Bernadette Stewart serving as lead interior designer. The design approach is expected to support The Portal’s blend of hospitality, wellness, creativity, and cultural programming.
The $5 million round includes participation from a broad group of investors and cultural leaders. Backers named by the company include Tim Ferriss, Emmet Peppers, Melissa Taunton, Scott Faber, Jacqui Bishop, Mimi Aye, Ankush Gera, Matt Mullenweg, Kwiri Yang, Shaunda Brown, Ben Arnberg, Spencer Kaye, Vishal Gurbuxani, Linea Avey, Aneil Mallavarapu, Michael Heinrich, Manish Chandra, Ravi Bhojwani, Zander Rafael, Michael Solomon, Andrew Boggs, Joshua Douglas, Matt Movalson, Matt Eggers, JP Newman, Michael Fishman, and Elaine Glass. The company’s advisors include Randall Mays, Miki Agrawal, and Dr. Mark Hyman.
The Portal’s Austin expansion comes as demand grows for hybrid spaces that combine hospitality, wellness, work, culture, and community. By positioning its new flagship in Downtown Austin, the company is targeting a city known for its creative economy and entrepreneurial energy. With its funding secured and opening planned for fall 2026, The Portal is preparing to bring its community-centered model to one of the country’s most active innovation markets.
