Strong by Form has secured the first €5.8 million, or about $6.6 million, of a planned €10 million Series A to support the commercialization of its Woodflow-core structural building system. The financing was led by boisei labs, with participation from CMPC, VX Ventures, Ternel, Savia Ventures, Teampact.ventures, Axel Carbon Capital, Finsa, and several undisclosed family offices. The funding will help the company move the technology toward commercial construction projects across Europe.
Funding European Expansion
Strong by Form said the capital will be used to establish manufacturing capacity in Europe, complete certification for Woodflow-core, and support initial deployments with construction partners. The company is targeting projects in Spain, France, Germany, and Switzerland as it builds a commercial footprint for the technology. A second close remains open as Strong by Form works toward the full €10 million Series A target.
Competing With Concrete Slabs
Woodflow-core is a structural timber slab designed to compete with conventional concrete flooring systems on both performance and cost. According to Strong by Form, the product can span up to 10 meters while being around 80% lighter than concrete and using 75% fewer trees than cross-laminated timber, or CLT. The company also says the system can achieve these advantages without imposing a price premium on builders.
Targeting a Large Construction Market
Strong by Form estimates the concrete slab market at about $120 billion, compared with less than $1.5 billion currently served by timber alternatives. The company argues that timber has struggled to gain a larger share because available solutions have not consistently matched concrete on strength, span, and price at the same time. Woodflow-core is intended to address those constraints while giving construction companies a lighter and potentially lower-carbon structural option.
Investor and Industry Support
The first close brings together investors spanning industrial technology, climate, construction, forestry, and venture capital. CMPC, which backed Strong by Form earlier in the development of Woodflow-core, participated again alongside the other investors in the Series A. The company also credited its construction partners, clients, team members, and supporters for helping advance the product toward commercial deployment.
From Development to Deployment
The next stage will center on the manufacturing, certification, and market infrastructure required to use Woodflow-core in real buildings at greater scale. Certification is a critical part of that process because structural materials must satisfy technical and regulatory requirements before they can be broadly adopted in construction projects. Initial European deployments will give Strong by Form an opportunity to demonstrate the product’s performance, economics, and compatibility with established building practices.
Sustainability and Resource Efficiency
Strong by Form is positioning Woodflow-core as a way to reduce the environmental impact of structural construction without asking developers to compromise on performance or cost. Its claims of lower weight and substantially reduced wood use compared with CLT are central to that proposition, particularly as the construction industry looks for alternatives to carbon-intensive materials. The company’s challenge will now be to translate those technical claims into repeatable manufacturing and commercially viable projects.
With €5.8 million secured in the first close of its Series A, Strong by Form has fresh capital to accelerate Woodflow-core’s transition from product development to market deployment. Its immediate priorities are European manufacturing capacity, certification, and initial projects across Spain, France, Germany, and Switzerland, while fundraising continues toward the €10 million target. Successful deployments could strengthen the case for engineered timber in structural applications that have traditionally been dominated by concrete.
