Strattum, a data infrastructure startup focused on artificial intelligence, has acquired Tropicalia, a Silicon Valley-based company founded in 2025 that specialized in context engineering. The transaction is structured as an acqui-hire, with Tropicalia ending its independent operations and its founding team joining Strattum. The announcement comes months after Strattum raised a $3.2 million pre-seed round co-led by Maya Capital and ONEVC with participation from Norte Ventures.
Acquiring Context Engineering Expertise
The acquisition reflects an acqui-hire model in which the primary value lies in the team and its specialized knowledge rather than in products or client contracts. According to CEO Carlos Eduardo Monguilhott, Tropicalia had a product on the market and customers, but the central asset was the founders' experience in context engineering. He stated that the main motivation was to incorporate the founders and the knowledge they built before the term context engineering became widely recognized.
The Company Brain Concept
Both companies share the view that the main barrier to putting artificial intelligence into production is not the models themselves but how data and context reach them. Strattum calls this layer the company brain, which connects and organizes information scattered across ERP systems, CRM platforms, data lakes, spreadsheets, and documents. Once structured, this context can be reused across different use cases, reducing token consumption and operational costs.
Different Origins, Common Problem
Strattum approached the challenge from corporate data infrastructure and focused on large enterprises, while Tropicalia worked closer to startups and developers building AI applications. The CEO summarized the dynamic by noting that one company came from the corporate side and the other from the builder side. This difference influenced product decisions, including how context is modeled, reused across use cases, and delivered to models with lower token usage and cost.

Tropicalia's work in context engineering is expected to accelerate Strattum's company brain development. The acquired expertise should help refine how internal corporate data is organized and contextualized before being sent to language models and AI agents. New Leadership Assignments
With Tropicalia closing as an independent company, Arthur Guttilla takes on the role of Head of Product Marketing and Partnerships at Strattum. Leonardo Miranda joins the Application team, which manages the interface through which clients access structured context. They will work alongside engineering led by CTO and co-founder Rafael Viana, creating a dedicated front for the company brain application layer.
Transaction Terms
The absence of disclosed terms keeps the focus on talent integration rather than financial valuation. Strattum also did not detail whether resources from its previous funding round were used to complete the acquisition. The deal was announced on Wednesday and positions Strattum to strengthen its senior team after a significant capital raise.
