Startmate has brought its accelerator founders back to San Francisco, marking a renewed push to connect Australia and New Zealand startups with the heart of the US technology ecosystem. The trip culminated in the organisation’s first Demo Day at Stripe’s headquarters in San Francisco, where 19 Startmate companies presented to an audience of Bay Area investors, founders and operators. The program signalled a revival of Startmate’s long-running founder trips to Silicon Valley, a tradition that began in 2011 and had been paused since 2020.

A San Francisco Return for ANZ Founders

The week-long visit was designed to give participating founders direct exposure to the scale, pace and expectations of the US startup market. Across the program, founders took part in investor meetings, one-on-one conversations, pitch feedback sessions and community events with members of the Australian and New Zealand startup network in San Francisco. The trip also gave founders a closer look at how ANZ companies can build internationally while accessing capital, customers and networks beyond their home markets.

Demo Day at Stripe HQ

The centrepiece of the visit was Startmate’s San Francisco Demo Day, hosted at Stripe HQ, which brought together around 90 Bay Area venture capitalists, founders and startup operators. Nineteen companies took the stage, including many from Startmate’s Summer ’26 Accelerator cohort as well as several alumni companies. Startmate said the event highlighted the quality of the founders, the maturity of the startups and the level of ambition coming out of the ANZ ecosystem at pre-seed and seed stage.

Building Global Connections

Beyond the formal pitch event, Startmate used the trip to strengthen ties between its founders and the broader US startup community. The organisation also hosted a closing gathering with accelerator founders, venture capitalists and Australians based in San Francisco, supported by Carta, to mark the end of the week. The event reflected Startmate’s broader aim of creating stronger pathways between ANZ startups and international markets, particularly for companies preparing to raise capital or expand in the United States.

Showcasing the ANZ Startup Ecosystem

Startmate’s return to San Francisco comes as the accelerator continues to position ANZ founders as globally competitive company builders. Since launching its accelerator model, Startmate says it has backed more than 350 startups with a combined valuation of more than A$4.5 billion. By taking its latest cohort into the Bay Area, the organisation is aiming to increase investor awareness of the region’s startup talent and give founders a clearer benchmark for competing on the global stage.

The San Francisco trip and Demo Day represent a significant international moment for Startmate’s current and alumni founders. While the program served as a showcase for 19 companies, it also underlined the importance of proximity to global capital, experienced operators and mature startup markets. For Startmate, the renewed Silicon Valley visit is both a return to an earlier founder tradition and a statement that ANZ startups are increasingly seeking to build with global ambition from the outset.
