SkinBit, a company aiming to democratize dermatology, has successfully closed a $6 million pre-seed funding round. The investment, led by Boost VC, Cleo Capital, and others, will fuel the development and deployment of its innovative full-body skin imaging system. This technology is designed to make preventative skin cancer screening more accessible by integrating it into routine health and wellness visits.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Preventative Health

Skin cancer remains a significant public health concern, with one in five Americans expected to develop it in their lifetime. Diagnoses of melanoma, the most serious form, have increased by 42% over the last decade, yet access to specialists is often a major barrier. Patients face long wait times, averaging over 34 days for an appointment, and significant shortages of dermatologists exist in many areas.

A Mission Forged from Personal Experience

The company's mission is deeply personal for co-founder and CEO Jonathan Benassaya, previously known for co-founding the music streaming platform Deezer. His journey into health technology was sparked by his own delayed melanoma diagnosis, which was fortunately caught by a vigilant dermatologist in 2020. This experience highlighted the critical need for better tracking and inspired him to create a system where health outcomes do not depend on luck.

Harnessing AI for Longitudinal Skin Mapping

SkinBit's system utilizes total-body imaging to conduct a comprehensive scan in approximately 20 minutes. The automated process maps and categorizes every mark on the skin, creating a detailed digital baseline for each patient. This longitudinal record allows clinicians to accurately track changes over time, a significant improvement over traditional visual exams that rely on memory.

The platform ensures that all scans are reviewed by board-certified dermatologists, who can identify areas of concern and recommend further action. Patients requiring specialized care can be seamlessly referred to specialists with their complete imaging data already attached. This streamlined process aims to bridge the gap between initial screening and expert diagnosis, ensuring timely intervention when it matters most.

Strategic Rollout and Market Demand

To maximize accessibility, SkinBit plans to place its scanners in locations patients already frequent, such as medical spas, longevity clinics, and dermatology practices. The company is preparing to launch its first three partner locations in 2026, with an ambitious goal to expand to 15 sites by the end of 2027. This strategy aims to integrate skin health checks into the broader wellness ecosystem.

The market has shown strong early interest in SkinBit's preventative approach, demonstrating a clear demand for more proactive skin health solutions. The company currently has active discussions with over 20 potential locations for its scanners. Furthermore, an impressive waitlist of more than 5,000 individuals has already signed up, signaling significant consumer anticipation for the service's launch.

Investor Confidence and a Growing Tech Trend

The $6 million funding round saw participation from notable firms like Manna Ventures and Profluent Capital, as well as Lyft co-founder Logan Green. Crucially, the investor group also includes nine board-certified dermatologists, lending significant clinical validation to the company's technology and approach. This diverse backing underscores broad confidence in SkinBit's potential to transform dermatological care and preventative health.

By leveraging advanced imaging and AI, SkinBit is poised to shift the paradigm of skin health from reactive treatment to proactive, data-driven prevention. The company's technology and strategic deployment aim to make regular skin checks a standard and accessible part of everyone's health routine. Ultimately, SkinBit's mission is to ensure that a cancer you can see is one that no one dies from.
