Shifters Raises $10.2M Seed Round for Autonomous Robotic Teams

Shifters, a global technology firm developing AI-native autonomous robotic teams, has announced a $10.2 million seed funding round led by Ace Capital Partners. This new investment brings the company's total funding to $15 million, sourced from a mix of U.S., European, and Israeli investors. The capital is earmarked to advance Shifters' mission of deploying supervised autonomous ground robots to enhance operator safety in hazardous environments.


A Mission to Prioritize Robotic Deployment

At the core of the company's strategy is its “Robots Go First” mission, which aims to preserve human life by using robotic systems as the initial entrants into dangerous settings. CEO and Co-founder Ofer Ballin emphasized this vision, stating, “The first asset into a dangerous environment should increasingly be a robot, not a person.” This funding will accelerate the development of coordinated robotic teams that can be intuitively directed by a single operator.

While aerial drones have revolutionized intelligence gathering from the sky, many high-risk ground missions still require personnel to navigate treacherous terrain like rubble and tunnels. Shifters is addressing this gap by introducing a similar technological shift for ground operations. The company's systems are designed to improve situational awareness and reduce human exposure before a mission escalates into a higher-risk scenario.

Advanced Hardware and Software Integration

Shifters' platform is built on a dual hardware and software foundation, featuring a family of rugged robotic platforms called TRUST, which are highly maneuverable. These platforms are controlled by RITA, a software and command layer that helps the systems interpret intent and adapt to changing conditions. A virtual simulation tool, DIGITAL TWIN, allows for mission analysis and planning in a mirrored virtual space.

The primary technological challenge is enabling robotic teams to operate effectively in demanding environments while ensuring human supervision remains simple and intuitive. CTO and Co-founder Assaf Chaprak noted that the goal is to solve this complex, multi-layered problem to make the systems deployable at scale. This approach allows one operator to manage multiple robots, significantly reducing risk to human life in complex operating conditions.

Strategic Investment and Market Alignment

The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors, including Aurelius Capital Management, Corner Ventures, Arkin Capital, STEP World, and Fresh Fund. This investor consortium brings extensive experience in aerospace, defense, and dual-use national security technologies. Their involvement reflects the growing demand for advanced robotic systems capable of supporting high-stakes missions for defense and critical infrastructure.

Shimon Tsentsiper, Co-founder and Managing Partner at lead investor Ace Capital Partners, expressed strong confidence in the company's direction. He stated that Shifters is precisely the kind of company redefining defense and dual-use autonomy. Tsentsiper highlighted that the AI motion control layer being built by Shifters is a capability expected to define the next era of ground robotics.

Scaling Production and Expanding Applications

With the new capital, Shifters plans to enhance its agentic AI capabilities, accelerate its manufacturing readiness, and expand its global presence across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. The company is focused on preparing its production lines to meet what it describes as massive client demand. The ultimate objective is to achieve full autonomy through a gradual, copilot-style development process, with its TRUST platform nearing full technological readiness.

The company has already completed successful demonstrations with defense and security stakeholders, with initial applications focused on reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and perimeter monitoring. Beyond defense, Shifters sees significant potential in commercial sectors, including infrastructure inspections, agriculture, mining, and search and rescue operations. The platform's design follows Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles, allowing for mission-specific configurations and broad integration possibilities.


This $10.2 million seed funding round marks a significant milestone for Shifters, providing the necessary resources to scale its innovative robotic solutions. The investment validates the company's approach to integrating advanced AI with modular hardware to protect human lives in high-risk situations.
