German defence technology company Quantum Systems has announced a significant expansion of its industrial cooperation with Ukraine through the establishment of two new joint ventures. The announcement, made during Ukrainian-German government consultations in Berlin, falls under the “Build with Ukraine” initiative. These new partnerships with Ukrainian firms WIY Drones and Tencore will focus on enhancing both air defence and unmanned ground system capabilities.
Expanding a Successful Partnership
These new ventures follow the successful launch of Quantum Frontline Industries (QFI), an earlier collaboration with Ukrainian manufacturer Frontline Robotics. This initial project proved the viability and effectiveness of the German-Ukrainian co-production model. QFI's rapid progress from concept to production has established a strong foundation for these subsequent industrial partnerships.
The core strategy of the initiative is to merge Ukraine's invaluable combat experience with Germany's advanced industrial and technological infrastructure. Matthias Lehna, a Vice President at Quantum Systems, highlighted the critical role of unmanned systems in modern defence. He affirmed that these joint ventures will integrate battle-proven expertise directly into European industrial frameworks.
Bolstering Air Defence Capabilities
The first new entity, Quantum WIY Industries (QWI), is a formal partnership with the Ukrainian company WIY Drones. This joint venture is dedicated to advancing and scaling air defence technologies, with a particular emphasis on interceptor drones. The collaboration directly addresses the urgent and evolving requirements of the Ukrainian battlefield for robust aerial protection.
The formation of QWI holds considerable strategic importance, as it aligns with a directive from Ukraine's Security and Defence Forces. Through this partnership, Quantum Systems is tasked with delivering 15,000 Strila interceptor drones. The CTO of WIY Drones expressed deep gratitude for the German support, stating it is a vital contribution to making Ukrainian skies safer.
Advancing into Unmanned Ground Systems
The second joint venture, Quantum Tencore Industries (QTI), signifies Quantum Systems' strategic expansion into the land domain. In partnership with Ukrainian firm Tencore, QTI will concentrate on scaling the production of battle-tested unmanned ground systems. This initiative is a key part of the company's broader goal to create an integrated, multi-domain technological ecosystem.
Hendrik Kramer, Vice President of Land Domain at Quantum Systems, emphasized that the future of defence is inherently multi-domain. He explained that QTI will fuse Ukrainian operational knowledge with advanced autonomy to engineer the next generation of ground systems. This synergy is designed to yield highly effective and resilient solutions for contemporary military challenges.
This sentiment was shared by Roman Tkachenko, Co-Founder of Tencore, who described the venture as a powerful combination of strengths. He noted that international collaboration is crucial for advancing the future of unmanned systems. The joint effort is focused on developing solutions that fortify both nations and provide critical support to Ukrainian forces.
The establishment of these two joint ventures reinforces Quantum Systems' position as a leader in German-Ukrainian defence cooperation. By extending its “Build with Ukraine” initiative across both air and land domains, the company is providing a tangible boost to Ukraine's defence. This strategic expansion not only addresses Ukraine's immediate security needs but also strengthens the long-term industrial and defence capabilities of Europe.
