Uruguayan fintech Prometeo has announced a significant expansion of its financial infrastructure platform, introducing new capabilities designed to help businesses validate accounts and counterparties before moving money across borders. The launch includes account verification coverage in more than 110 countries across five continents and a new risk intelligence product. The company said the updates are intended to reduce payment rejections, manual reconciliation, and operational friction for banks, payment providers, and treasury teams.

A Broader Validation Layer

The new package, called Account Verification Boost, brings together three main developments. It expands account verification coverage across more than 110 countries and five continents while adding a structured reputational and regulatory data endpoint. It also introduces an enhanced validation engine for high-volume onboarding, payout, and payment workflows, moving the company beyond basic account checks.

Expanded Global Coverage

Prometeo now enables account verification in more than 110 countries across five continents through a single API and consistent validation logic. The service is aimed at banks, payment providers, remittance and foreign exchange companies, marketplaces, treasury teams, and AI agents. This global coverage is intended to simplify cross-border operations and reduce reliance on fragmented local verification tools.

Risk Intelligence Capabilities

The company also launched Risk Intelligence, a reputational and regulatory risk endpoint available as an add-on to Account Verification or as a standalone solution. It provides structured data on company identity, legal status, ownership, sanctions, regulatory signals, adverse media, and corporate registry information. The product is currently available in Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Chile, with planned expansion to Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States.

Account Verification V2 Enhancements

Account Verification V2 adds configurable workflows, normalized responses, request traceability, sandbox support for migration from V1, and resilient routing across eligible data sources. Customers can select countries, data points, and validation methods relevant to their use case, including account, account-holder name, ID, and currency checks. The platform also assigns a unique ID and standardized response to each request while smart routing redirects requests if one data source becomes unavailable.

Strategic Context for Cross-Border Payments

Prometeo connects companies to more than 7,500 financial institutions through a single API and works with organizations such as SWIFT, Citi, and JPMorgan. The new offerings expand its financial infrastructure for businesses operating across multiple markets. The company is focusing on the validation layer itself rather than only connecting businesses to payment rails.

Executive Perspective

Ximena Alemán, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prometeo, said that companies operating across borders need more than a basic yes or no account check. She explained that businesses must know an account is valid, belongs to the intended holder, and that the company or person behind it is appropriate to engage with. Alemán added that Prometeo is giving customers operational certainty over every transaction by going deeper, wider, and further in the validation layer.

The launch reflects Prometeo's broader ambition to strengthen financial infrastructure for global payments and compliance workflows. By combining wider account verification coverage with counterparty risk data and a more resilient validation engine, the fintech aims to help businesses prevent errors before funds move. The expansion positions Prometeo to serve a growing range of cross-border use cases with a single API.
