PhysicsWallah is set to expand its footprint across South India, with founder and chief executive officer Alakh Pandey announcing he will be stationed in the region for the next two years. The edtech company has also signed a five-year partnership with Mohan Babu University in Andhra Pradesh. This move reflects a strategic push to strengthen access to quality education and skill development in southern states.
Strategic Expansion to South India
The expansion was announced during an event in Tirupati, where Pandey said his life would be dedicated to students in South India for the next 24 months. He identified Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala as priority states for increasing PhysicsWallah's presence. The company aims to replicate the quality of education it provides in other parts of the country.
A Five-Year University Partnership
Under the agreement, PhysicsWallah will provide online artificial intelligence, skilling and career-focused courses to nearly 18,000 students at Mohan Babu University. The collaboration is designed to bring industry exposure and hands-on learning directly into the university environment. It also reflects a shared goal of making students more industry-relevant and prepared for changing workforce demands.
Addressing Critical Skills Gaps
The partnership comes amid growing concerns about youth employability and talent shortages in India. Youth employability stood at 54.8 percent in 2025 according to the Human Capital for Viksit Bharat report, while Indian companies reported a 63 percent talent shortage in information technology, engineering services and sales. The World Economic Forum estimates that 39 percent of existing worker skills will need to change by 2030, with adaptability and technological literacy among the most valued abilities.
A Growing Pan-India Education Platform
Founded in 2020 by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari, PhysicsWallah has reached more than 40 million students across its platforms since inception. Over 5 million paid students have enrolled in FY26 alone, according to the company. Its mobile application has surpassed 89.4 million cumulative downloads, and the platform offers courses in Hindi, English, Hinglish and nine regional languages.
Digital Learning Momentum
PhysicsWallah's education ecosystem currently spans 16 test preparation exam categories and a social media community reaching over 142 million students. The company originally became known for its Hinglish batches before expanding into multiple languages over time. This digital momentum supports its efforts to build stronger regional engagement in South India.
