Berlin-based senior safety technology company Patronus has raised €11 million to expand its emergency response smartwatch and connected care platform. The funding round was led by 3TS Capital Partners, with participation from Grazia Equity and existing backers Singular, Burda Principal Investments, Adjacent, NAP, and UVC Partners. The investment will support Patronus as it scales its services for older adults seeking greater independence and safety.

Addressing a Growing Care Challenge

Patronus operates in a market shaped by Europe’s ageing population and increasing pressure on families and care systems. In Germany, 9.6 million people are over 75, while the figure across Europe reaches 53.1 million. At the same time, many seniors want to remain independent for longer, creating demand for more accessible and reliable safety solutions.

Technology Designed for Daily Use

The company’s core product is a smartwatch that functions as a mobile emergency device with a built-in SIM card and 24/7 access to an emergency response centre in Germany. Unlike traditional home alarm systems, the device is designed to resemble a regular wristwatch, helping increase everyday adoption. Patronus says its watch has achieved an 85% daily wear rate, compared with much lower usage levels for conventional alarm devices.

Growth and Investor Confidence

Founded in Berlin in 2020, Patronus now serves 25,000 active customers and has handled more than half a million emergency calls. Its family app connects around 50,000 relatives with older users in real time, adding another layer of reassurance and communication. UVC Partners, which first invested in 2021, said the company’s growth reflects both demographic momentum and the potential for technology-led care models.

Expanding Into AI Companionship

Beyond emergency response, Patronus plans to develop an AI companion directly inside its watch. The feature is intended to support seniors not only during emergencies but also in everyday moments of isolation. According to the company, loneliness among older adults is a serious health concern, and its future product roadmap aims to combine safety, independence, and connection.

The €11 million round positions Patronus to expand its presence in Germany and further develop technology for senior care. By combining emergency response, family connectivity, and planned AI companionship, the company is targeting a long-term structural need in Europe’s ageing societies. Its challenge now will be to scale while maintaining trust, usability, and dignity for the older adults it serves.
