OpenAI has officially entered the semiconductor arena by unveiling its first custom AI chip, the Jalapeño Intelligence Processor. Developed in a strategic partnership with Broadcom, the accelerator is engineered specifically to enhance the performance of large language model inference. This move signals OpenAI's ambition to control its entire technology stack and address the global demand for specialized AI computing power.


A Strategic Move Towards Vertical Integration

Engineering samples are already running successfully in labs, powering the company's GPT-5.3-Codex-Spark model at target frequency and power. This efficiency is achieved by minimizing data movement and balancing compute, memory, and networking resources effectively.
