Sea Limited, the parent company of e-commerce giant Shopee, has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI. This collaboration aims to drive AI innovation across Southeast Asia and Brazil, enhancing the digital commerce experience for millions. The agreement will integrate ChatGPT features for shoppers and provide powerful business tools for sellers on the platform.

A New Era for E-Commerce Discovery

As a central feature of this partnership, the Shopee application is now available within ChatGPT for users across eight key markets. This integration allows customers to discover products using natural, conversational language directly within the AI interface. Shopee becomes the first e-commerce platform of its kind to offer this capability in Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Consumers can now ask ChatGPT for gift ideas, fashion inspiration, or even specific product advice to receive tailored recommendations from Shopee. After interacting with the suggestions, users can seamlessly continue their shopping journey on the Shopee platform. This new functionality is designed to make the process of finding products more intuitive and personalized for everyone.

Empowering Merchants with Advanced AI Tools

The collaboration extends significant benefits to merchants by introducing ChatGPT for Business to the Shopee seller ecosystem. This initiative provides businesses with powerful AI capabilities to streamline their day-to-day activities. Eligible sellers will receive access to trials, helping them leverage advanced AI to enhance their operations and customer engagement.

Sellers can utilize these new tools to automatically generate compelling product listings and marketing content. The AI can also assist in improving customer service workflows and automating various business processes. To support this transition, the program includes comprehensive onboarding resources, training, and best-practice guides for small businesses.

Fostering a Broader AI Ecosystem

Beyond the immediate e-commerce applications, the strategic partnership is set to foster a wider culture of AI innovation. Sea and OpenAI are committed to accelerating the adoption of advanced AI tools within Sea's operations and the broader developer community. This joint effort reflects a shared vision for making AI more accessible and impactful across the region's digital economy.

A key component of this vision is the joint organization of the first regional Codex Hackathon series in Asia Pacific. The initiative kicked off in Singapore, attracting over 1,200 applications and providing a platform for hands-on learning and experimentation. Additional hackathons are planned for Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia to further cultivate local AI talent.

This strategic alliance between Sea and OpenAI represents a significant milestone in the evolution of digital commerce. By embedding advanced AI into its ecosystem, Sea is creating more intuitive experiences for consumers and empowering small businesses to thrive. The partnership is poised to redefine the e-commerce landscape in Southeast Asia and Brazil, setting a new standard for innovation.
