Numeral, an AI-powered sales tax compliance platform, has secured a $100 million Series C funding round led by Insight Partners. Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator, and Uncork also participated in the round. The company will use the capital to accelerate product development, expand across software, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale, and grow its engineering, sales, marketing and product teams.

Leadership Perspective

Numeral co-founder and CEO Sam Ross explained that sales tax has become a much larger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models. He said businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace with changing rules and requirements without adding manual work for their teams. Ross emphasized that Numeral is building that foundation with tax expertise and service customers can rely on.

Growth and Transaction Volume Momentum

Numeral reports a 327 percent year-over-year increase in total transaction volume, and it expects to process more than 80 million transactions through its tax engine. The company has also seen significant customer growth in software, distribution and manufacturing. These sectors are experiencing substantial regulatory change, which is driving demand for automated compliance infrastructure.

Adapting to Evolving Sales Tax Rules

Sales tax regulations continue to evolve alongside changing buying and selling models. California recently enacted a law that will extend sales and use tax to prewritten software, including SaaS and electronically delivered software, beginning in 2027. Companies operating across multiple states and countries must constantly monitor new obligations and update their systems accordingly.

Platform Efficiency and Global Reach

Numeral supports businesses across the sales tax compliance lifecycle, from nexus monitoring and registrations to tax calculation, filings, remittance and exemption certificate management. The platform also covers VAT and GST compliance in more than 90 countries and connects with over 40 billing, financial and enterprise resource planning systems. Customers can reduce time spent on tax filings and registrations by up to 80 percent and cut manual spreadsheet work and filing errors by up to 95 percent.

Identifying Hidden Compliance Risks

Numeral's exemption certificate management offering can save companies up to 400 hours each year. When existing certificates are moved onto the platform, Numeral often finds that 30 to 40 percent fail validation, revealing compliance issues that may previously have gone unidentified. This capability helps businesses address potential audit exposure before it becomes a larger problem.

Accounting Partner Program Launch

Numeral is also deepening its relationships with accounting firms through the launch of an accounting partner program. Firms can refer clients, resell the platform, use it to deliver their own services, or advise clients during implementation. Participants receive premier support and a range of benefits designed to reward engagement, growth and long-term collaboration.

Investor Confidence in AI-Driven Compliance

Insight Partners Managing Director Rebecca Liu-Doyle described sales tax as mission-critical, noting that regulatory complexity is growing as rules expand into new products and markets. She said customers repeatedly pointed to Numeral's reliability, accuracy and high level of service. Geodesic Capital Partner Arvind Ayyala added that Numeral combines deep tax expertise with AI-native infrastructure to deliver tax compliance as an outcome.

Founded in 2023 by Sam Ross and Matt DuVall, Numeral previously raised a $35 million Series B in September 2025, bringing its total funding to $157 million. The latest investment positions the company to support a broader range of industries and larger businesses while continuing to invest in both technology and tax expertise. As sales tax obligations grow more complex, Numeral aims to provide infrastructure that helps companies and accounting firms manage compliance accurately and efficiently.
