Nucleo Ventures, the new public identity for Fortech Ventures, has officially launched a substantial €34 million investment fund to energize the regional startup ecosystem. Developed in a key partnership with the North-West Regional Development Agency, the initiative is designed to cultivate a new generation of internationally scalable businesses. The fund will primarily target innovative companies across Romania and the wider Central and Eastern European landscape.

Strategic Investment and Financial Structure

The fund's robust financial structure is anchored by a €23.5 million institutional commitment from ADR Nord-Vest, complemented by private capital and management team contributions. Over the next four years, Nucleo Ventures aims to strategically finance a portfolio of 46 distinct companies. This diverse investment strategy will support ventures ranging from promising early-stage ideas to established SMEs ready for international scaling.

Championing the North-West Region

The fund's focus on the North-West Region, which includes Cluj, Bihor, and Maramureș, is a strategic choice to capitalize on its existing strengths. The area is home to some of Romania's strongest universities and technology communities, making it a fertile ground for innovation. Nucleo Ventures intends to amplify the region's reputation as a thriving hub for technology talent and high-growth enterprises.

In addition to nurturing local talent, the fund actively seeks to attract entrepreneurs and innovative companies from other parts of Romania and CEE. The objective is to establish the North-West Region as a strategic base for businesses looking to develop and expand their global operations. To further stimulate early innovation, a dedicated €1.7 million grant facility is available to support the validation of new ideas.

More Than Just Capital

According to Managing Partner Valentin Filip, the fund directly addresses the critical shortage of early-stage capital that many founders face despite the region's exceptional technical talent. He emphasized that the core mission is to bridge this gap and enable the creation of companies capable of competing on a global stage. This vision positions the North-West Region as a premier destination for entrepreneurs seeking funding and international growth opportunities.

Portfolio companies will receive comprehensive support that extends well beyond financing, ensuring they have the tools needed for sustainable growth. This includes access to invaluable mentoring, recruitment support, and expert guidance on commercial strategy and international expansion. Nucleo Ventures is also building a powerful regional collaboration network with key ecosystem players like Rubik Hub and Make IT in Oradea.

The establishment of the €34 million Nucleo Ventures fund represents a significant milestone for Romania's entrepreneurial landscape and the broader CEE technology sector. By blending substantial capital with hands-on strategic support, the initiative is poised to unlock significant potential and accelerate the growth of innovative companies. Ultimately, this investment will strengthen the North-West Region's identity as a dynamic and competitive hub for global business development.
