Nscale, a full-stack AI cloud platform, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Anyscale, the company behind the Ray open-source framework for scaling AI workloads. This strategic move aims to combine Nscale's vertically integrated infrastructure with Anyscale's advanced software layer for scaling AI workloads. The acquisition is poised to create a comprehensive, end-to-end AI platform for enterprises globally.

A Strategic Integration of AI Infrastructure and Software

The acquisition brings together two highly complementary entities within the artificial intelligence ecosystem. Nscale specializes in providing the foundational infrastructure, including GPUs, data centers, and power, essential for AI operations. Anyscale contributes the critical software layer that machine learning engineers use to manage and scale their complex workloads.

Josh Payne, CEO of Nscale, highlighted the company's unique approach of building and owning every layer of its AI cloud. He stated that Anyscale's platform completes this vision by adding managed services that scale any AI task. This combination creates a truly vertically integrated solution, from power source to production-ready AI applications.

Expanding Capabilities for a Growing AI Market

By integrating Anyscale's software, Nscale will transform its raw compute resources into a complete, end-to-end AI development platform. This enhancement is expected to significantly expand Nscale's customer base across various industries, from healthcare to robotics. The unified offering will streamline the entire AI lifecycle for a broader range of companies.

The full-stack platform will empower companies to accelerate complex tasks like image and document processing. Customers will be able to fine-tune large language models on proprietary data and deploy AI agents using open-source models more efficiently. This integrated environment is designed to reduce costs and complexity for businesses building their own AI solutions.

Anyscale CEO Keerti Melkote emphasized that building proprietary AI requires a cohesive design of software and infrastructure. He described the merger as creating the first "full-stack AI hyperscaler" capable of running any workload at greater scale. This synergy aims to lower costs and enable more companies to own their AI development.

Operational Continuity and Open-Source Commitment

Following the acquisition, Anyscale will continue to operate under its established brand and serve its existing customers without interruption. The entire Anyscale team of approximately 200 employees across the U.S., Europe, and India will join Nscale. This ensures a seamless transition and retention of specialized talent within the combined organization.

Anyscale was founded by the creators of Ray, the open-source standard for distributed AI applications. Reinforcing its dedication to the open-source community, Nscale will join the PyTorch Foundation. This commitment ensures the continued development and long-term success of the Ray framework for its thousands of users.

This landmark acquisition signals a significant consolidation in the AI cloud market, creating a powerful, vertically integrated player. By merging Nscale's infrastructure with Anyscale's software prowess, the new entity is positioned to offer a comprehensive solution for the entire AI development pipeline. The transaction, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
