Berlin based legal AI company Noxtua has closed a Series C funding round totaling more than 100 million euros. The investment reshapes its ownership structure as German legal publisher C.H.BECK becomes the majority shareholder and Austrian publisher MANZ joins as a new investor. The company says the capital will accelerate product development, team growth and pan European expansion for its jurisdiction specific legal AI workspace.

Strategic Publisher Partnership Reshapes Ownership

Noxtua's Series C round totals more than 100 million euros and marks the largest investment ever made by the 260 year old publishing house C.H.BECK. The publisher, which first backed Noxtua during its Series B in 2025, now becomes the new majority shareholder. MANZ, Austria's leading legal publisher and an existing product collaborator, also joins the round as a new investor.

A Platform Built on Curated Legal Data

Noxtua was founded in Berlin in 2017 and spun out of research at Oxford University and Imperial College London, launching its first product in 2024. The company now counts more than 30,000 legal professionals as users, around 100 employees and six locations across Europe. Its Legal AI Workspaces cover research, complex analysis and document drafting and are powered by curated legal data from publishers including C.H.BECK, MANZ and Helbing Lichtenhahn.

Security and Compliance Remain Central

Noxtua has positioned its platform around the professional, criminal and data protection requirements that apply to the legal sector, including German Criminal Code Section 203 and Federal Code for Lawyers Section 43e. The company holds certifications such as BSI C5, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001. Its leadership argues that legal professionals need verifiable sources and secure handling of sensitive client information, not only fast generated text.

Investor Base Aligns With Long Term Strategy

The Series C also restructures Noxtua's investor base as existing backers Global Brain Corporation, KDDI Open Innovation Fund, CMS, Dentons and Dominik Schiener exit. Noxtua says the shift reflects closer strategic alignment with European legal publishers rather than dependence on short term venture capital cycles. Law firms CMS and Dentons will continue as key anchor clients, with CMS having co initiated Noxtua in 2024.

Funding to Accelerate European Expansion

The fresh capital will fund product development, team growth and further pan European expansion, while deepening publisher partnerships. Noxtua has recently launched Legal AI Workspaces in Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic in partnership with local publishers. The company reports that it quadrupled its team in the past year and quintupled revenue in the past four months.

Less Hollywood, More Substance in Legal AI

Unlike competitors that rely heavily on large language models, Noxtua bases every request on curated publisher data and highlights citations to show how conclusions are reached. The company also uses high performance open source models and offers access to closed source frontier models in a European setup with Deutsche Telekom. Chief Executive Dr Leif Nissen Lundbaek describes the approach as less Hollywood and more substance, focusing on data, models, infrastructure, security and sovereignty.

Human Responsibility and the Rule of Law

Noxtua leaders stress that AI can assist with drafting, research and multi step analysis but cannot assume professional responsibility. They argue that legal systems rightly require human oversight for final decisions. The company also frames its European focus as part of a broader responsibility to the rule of law and to public trust in legal institutions.

With this Series C round, Noxtua is betting that exclusive access to curated European legal content will create a defensible alternative to US focused legal AI platforms. The alliance with C.H.BECK and MANZ gives the company strong publishing expertise and a long term shareholder base for its expansion. As legal AI adoption accelerates, Noxtua aims to become the largest European Legal AI while remaining anchored in security, sovereignty and the quality of legal data.
