Nanomerics Ltd, a London-based specialty pharmaceutical company, has announced a Series A investment round supported by a German strategic investor and the Silverstein Dream Foundation. The amount of the financing was not disclosed in the announcement. The investment is intended to advance the company’s proprietary Molecular Envelope Technology and its clinical-stage ophthalmology pipeline.
Financing Purpose
The Series A investment will allow Nanomerics to execute efficiently on its development strategy and bring innovative medicines to ophthalmology patients. Professor Andreas G. Schätzlein, Chief Executive Officer, expressed enthusiasm about working with the German strategic investor and the Silverstein Dream Foundation. He noted that the funding will support the company’s effort to address significant unmet needs in eye care.
MET Platform
MET is described as the world’s first clinical-stage, non-irritant, topical ocular penetration enhancer. It solubilizes hydrophobic drugs and delivers them efficiently from an eye drop to both the front and the back of the eye. Because the technology can reach the back of the eye without an injection, it may reduce the need for repeated invasive procedures in diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
Ophthalmology and Neurology Pipeline
MET underpins Nanomerics’ ocular pipeline, including the clinical-stage candidate OC134 for moderate to severe allergic conjunctivitis and dry eye disease. The company is also developing OC137 for retinal diseases and OC135 for glaucoma. Beyond ophthalmology, MET delivers molecules preferentially to the brain via the nose-to-brain route, bypassing the blood-brain barrier.
Broader Pipeline and Gene Delivery
MET is the underlying technology in Envelta, which is in development for moderate to severe pain, and NobrXiol, which is in development for childhood epilepsies. Nanomerics’ second platform, METfect, is a proprietary polymer-based, non-viral gene delivery technology. These programs broaden the company’s potential beyond ophthalmology and create multiple paths to value.
Investor Perspective
Patricia Silverstein, Chief Executive Officer of the Silverstein Dream Foundation, said diabetic retinopathy is one of the most serious complications of diabetes and can profoundly affect independence and quality of life. She noted that the burden of existing treatment, including repeated injections into the eye, leaves many patients difficult to treat consistently. Nanomerics represents the type of opportunity that Program-Related Investments are intended to support, aligning mission-driven capital with potential patient benefit.
Investment Rationale
Everett Kamin, Chief Investment Officer of the Silverstein Dream Foundation, said the investment combines mission alignment and investment asymmetry. He noted that substantial technology development, manufacturing work, and initial clinical de-risking have already taken place ahead of potential value-inflection points. Kamin also emphasized that the management team has translated its technology into commercial and licensing relationships.
About Nanomerics
Nanomerics is a specialty pharmaceutical company with laboratories in London, United Kingdom. The company was founded to commercialize biocompatible polymer technologies for drug delivery and other applications. Its founding scientists, Professor Dame Ijeoma F. Uchegbu and Professor Andreas G. Schätzlein, developed the technology at the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow and later at the UCL School of Pharmacy.
Nanomerics’ Series A round provides new capital to advance a platform that could change how medicines are delivered to the eye and brain. The support from a German strategic investor and the Silverstein Dream Foundation underscores confidence in the company’s science, pipeline, and commercial potential. If clinical validation continues, the MET platform may offer less invasive treatment options and meaningful value creation across multiple therapeutic areas.
