MISUMI Group Inc. has announced through its U.S. subsidiary MISUMI Americas the launch of MISUMI Venture Capital Fund I, LP, operating as MISUMI Ventures, a US$50 million corporate venture capital fund. The fund will operate from the San Francisco Bay Area and target early-stage companies in frontier hardware, robotics, aerospace, medical technology, clean energy, eVTOL, automation, and industrial AI. It is expected to be established in October 2026 and complete its first investment before the end of the year.

A Strategic Step in North America

The fund is a direct extension of the US$1 billion Global Investment Vision that MISUMI Group announced earlier this year. That program commits up to 150 billion yen over three years to organic and inorganic growth, with significant investment directed to the United States. MISUMI Ventures gives the company a permanent institutional presence in the North American deep technology ecosystem and supports founders from early development through volume production.

Investment Focus and Portfolio Approach

MISUMI Ventures plans to build a portfolio of 20 to 30 seed and early stage companies, with initial investments typically between US$500,000 and US$1.5 million and capital reserved for follow-on rounds. The fund expects to co-invest alongside established Silicon Valley venture firms rather than lead rounds during its early years. Its focus is weighted toward frontier hardware and automation, and frontier AI and industrial software, with a smaller allocation for aerospace, satellites, climate technology, and medical devices.

Manufacturing Support as a Differentiator

Hardware companies often struggle in the gap between a working prototype and repeatable, high-quality volume production. MISUMI Ventures is designed to close that gap by giving portfolio companies direct access to standard, configurable, and custom manufacturing capabilities, as well as assembly and production services. Founders can also use a network spanning more than 30 million standard parts, 22 company-owned factories, 42 million custom parts delivered, and 4,000 sourcing partners across multiple regions.

Digital MODEL Shift and Manufacturing Ecosystem

MISUMI's Digital MODEL Shift strategy is central to the group's effort to transform design and procurement processes through digital technology. The company has developed AI-powered quotation tools and online ordering services that allow engineers to move from part selection to ordering entirely online. Through this ecosystem, portfolio companies can reduce routine work and focus more time on product development and high-value engineering.

Independent Fund Structure and Leadership

MISUMI Ventures is deliberately structured as an independent fund rather than a corporate balance-sheet investment vehicle, with MISUMI Group Inc. serving as its sole limited partner and the fund incorporated in Delaware. A dedicated management company employs the investment team, a general partner entity holds investment authority, and the fund itself holds all portfolio equity. Founding partners Eddie Chen, Dave Evans, and Nate Evans lead the effort from the San Francisco Bay Area, where additional investment staff are being hired.

Executive Commentary

Arata Shimizu, President of MISUMI Group, said the initiative is a long-term investment in the company's customers, technology, and relevance. Dave Evans, President and CEO of MISUMI Americas, described the fund as more than a passive check, giving founders an engineering and supply chain team that can quote quickly and scale without changing vendors. Eddie Chen, Managing Partner of MISUMI Ventures, said independent governance and autonomy allow the fund to move at the speed competitive seed rounds require.

MISUMI Ventures positions MISUMI as a long-term partner for companies shaping the next generation of manufacturing, combining capital with deep operational expertise. The initiative supports the group's broader Digital MODEL Shift strategy, which aims to enhance productivity in design and procurement through digital services and AI-powered tools. With a decade-long fund horizon and a global manufacturing network, the fund is intended to help portfolio companies move from prototype to production with greater speed and reliability.
