LITILIT Secures €8 Million Loan to Develop Modular Femtosecond Laser System

Vilnius-based laser manufacturer LITILIT has secured a significant €8 million loan to advance its pioneering work in femtosecond laser technology. This funding, provided by the Lithuanian National Development Bank ILTE, is part of a larger €10 million project to develop a new modular system named FEMODA. The initiative aims to overcome existing limitations and broaden the industrial application of high-precision lasers.


Advancing Industrial Laser Technology

Femtosecond lasers are renowned for their precision, using ultra-short light pulses for a process known as "cold ablation." This technique allows for material processing without heat damage to surrounding areas, making it vital for delicate tasks. Current applications range from medical procedures like eye surgery to manufacturing semiconductors and display screens.

Despite their precision, the widespread industrial adoption of femtosecond lasers has been constrained by significant practical challenges. Existing systems often demand heavy infrastructure, including dedicated water-cooling circulation and massive optical bases. They also require strictly controlled operating environments, adding complexity and cost that limit their integration into factories.

Introducing the FEMODA Modular System

LITILIT's FEMODA project directly addresses these obstacles by creating a user-friendly, integrated system. The design combines control electronics, optics, and cooling into a single, compact industrial unit. This modular platform is engineered to be less sensitive to temperature, humidity, and vibration, greatly simplifying its installation.

The new system is designed for both power and flexibility, targeting an average optical power of up to 1000W. This power can be split across 10 to 20 separate beam channels, allowing for parallel processing on a production line. Furthermore, if a single module fails, it can be replaced individually without disrupting the entire system.

Expanding Applications and Production Capacity

According to CEO Nikolajus Gavrilinas, this technological leap will unlock new large-scale industrial applications previously out of reach. The FEMODA system will enable the mass production of metal tools and the formation of specialized coatings on large surfaces like aircraft. It will also accelerate existing processes in consumer electronics and chip manufacturing.

To support this ambitious technological development, LITILIT is also scaling up its manufacturing capabilities significantly. The company recently began construction on a new high-capacity laser factory in Vilnius, which is expected to become operational this fall. The facility is targeting an impressive annual production capacity of 3,000 femtosecond lasers.

Project Funding and Future Outlook

The total €10 million investment for the FEMODA project is financed by the €8 million loan from ILTE and a €2 million contribution from LITILIT itself. The company is working towards a clear long-term goal for this advanced technology. The commercial launch of the new modular laser system is scheduled for the second half of 2029.


This strategic investment positions LITILIT to transform the landscape of industrial manufacturing by making advanced laser technology more accessible and scalable. The FEMODA project represents a critical step in moving femtosecond lasers from specialized, high-precision roles into mainstream industrial production lines. By addressing key barriers to adoption, the Lithuanian company is poised to become a leader in the global DeepTech market.
