Lightbringer, a Swedish legal technology firm using artificial intelligence to streamline patent filings, has successfully closed a $10 million Series A funding round. The investment was co-led by 6 Degrees Capital and Newion and will be used to finance the company's expansion into the United States. This strategic move aims to solidify Lightbringer's position in the global intellectual property market.

Disrupting the Traditional Patent Landscape

For decades, securing intellectual property has been a slow and prohibitively expensive process for many innovative companies. The traditional model relies heavily on manual collaboration between technical teams and specialized legal professionals, creating significant barriers. This outdated system often prevents startups and SMEs from adequately protecting their most valuable assets.

These challenges are compounded by a global shortage of patent lawyers with expertise in highly specialized fields like quantum computing and advanced AI. Consequently, valuable inventions often remain unprotected, leading to missed opportunities for investment, market share, and growth. The greatest risk is not the cost of filing but the strategic IP that is never secured.

An AI-Native Approach to Intellectual Property

Lightbringer addresses these issues with a fundamentally different approach compared to other legal tech solutions. While many AI tools are designed to assist lawyers, Lightbringer's platform is built to replace the functions of traditional patent firms. Its Service as a Software (SaS) offering integrates IP strategy, filing, and portfolio management into a single, automated system.

The platform leverages agentic AI, which is overseen by expert patent attorneys, to dramatically accelerate the process. This innovative combination reduces typical patent filing timelines from two months to just a few days. Through a fixed-price subscription model, the company also cuts costs for its clients by approximately 50 percent.

Fueling Growth and U.S. Expansion

The $10 million financing round was co-led by London-based 6 Degrees Capital and Amsterdam's Newion, with participation from existing investors Luminar Ventures and Alliance VC. As part of the deal, Thomas Olszewski of 6 Degrees Capital and Dorus Olgers of Newion will join Lightbringer's board of directors. Their expertise will help guide the company's next phase of development and international growth.

This investment follows a period of significant momentum for the company, which was founded in 2023. Lightbringer recently reported 300% year-over-year revenue growth, driven by rapid customer adoption across 17 countries. The company has already assisted over 200 deep tech clients, including DIASENSE and Cler, in managing their global patent portfolios.

With the new capital, Lightbringer will prioritize its expansion into the United States, the world's largest and most competitive IP market. The funding will also support the continued development of its AI-powered platform, enhancing its capabilities for a growing base of deep tech companies. This strategic allocation of resources is designed to accelerate the company's mission on a global scale.

This Series A funding marks a significant milestone for Lightbringer, validating its disruptive model for intellectual property management. By making patent protection faster, more affordable, and accessible, the company is empowering the next generation of innovators. Lightbringer's expansion and technological advancement are poised to make a lasting impact on the legal services industry.
